Let us not forget his excellent performance in the Tour of Ireland 09 also, screaming up Patricks Hill where ''greater'' feared to thread...he is at such a crucial point in his cycling career now, Im looking forward to this guys future.

Great performance from Sam on today's stage of the Tour of Oman. 13.5% gradient on the final climb where he finished best of the An Post Sean Kelly riders. Definitely a talent for the coming years - just a shame he, Lavery or Downey didn't get any Sports Council funding

Did any cycling discipline get money ? as I noticed in an interview with John Tracey during the week on the telly there was a backdrop of a cyclist

Surely the money would be better spent on developing young amateur talent?

Obviously that's a mixed list, I've no issues with the amateurs on it.

It's a bit mad that Matt Bramier didn't receive a penny considering he's the National Champ.

You and Cycling Ireland's high performance unit....

Personally would prefer if highly paid pro's were not given money by the Irish sports council (for it is they who issue the money and deicide who gets it). 80K is being given to 3 highly paid pros. This could sustain 10 riders in amateur teams on the continent.....

You have to apply for it to be considered. AFAIK protour status pretty much guarantee's funding if it's applied for.
