Change the dress

I need advice! Got a dress as you can see and I don't know if I like it. You obviously don't know me so please tell me what you think! Seems silly to be asking strangers but my mum and bridesmaids keep telling me its lovely and I think they are afraid to hurt my feelings.
My problem is the top of the dress, I don't like the lace. Any suggestions?

I love that dress, I think it looks gorgeous but I agree about the lace at the top. Would you consider getting it altered to perhaps a halter neck as I think the top would look lovely as a halter neck or maybe get rid of it altogether?

the dress itself from the top of the bust down is beautiful though and falls lovely..i think if you could get it altered it would be perfect on you:)

yeah I think its too much lace. I know nothing about alterations, does anyone know if you cut the lace are u able to restructure it.
It was a complete bargain, got it online for €110.

The above poster said exactly what I was thinking. It looks a bit fussy at the top, Id get that cut off and maybe try get the neckline made into a sweetheart?
Its a gorgeous dress though, and it will be you that is wearing it, so if you dont like it you will prob feel awful on the day. Dont wear it to suit others.

Its beautiful, really lovely. I'm not sure about altering it, I love it as it is but if you are happier with it changed then change it. Get a really good dressmaker to alter it, you dont want a botched job.

    Fantastic price

Thats fantastic, what a bargain. A friend of mine got a spanish lace dress (not sure what type yours is) and it is difficult to alter. Had to get herself measured perfectly and not lose or gain weight she was told.
Id say bring it to a dress maker or alteration shop and see what they say.

Janbaby, I love the dress. I think its fabulous.

However, if you are really not happy then change it. I know when I was trying on dresses, most places would say to me oh you can change this/that if I was not happy so hopefully you will have no problems.

Most bridal shops should have someone they can recommend for alterations or if you are stuck, i could PM you one anyway.

I love the dress, but I know what you mean about the lace.

It would be very easy to alter though!!:)

Janbaby, I really think its gorgeous but you are the one wearing it, so if you think you'd be happier altering it then do it! Have a look at dresses online and see what you like then bring a pic to a dressmaker to make sure they can do what you want!
    Best of luck!

I havent looked at it yet, I will in a mo but had to tell you straight away, go with your heart, I changed mine 8 wks before the wedding and I am delighted I did. It meant getting new bms and fg dresses too but in the end I think I got the operfect dress for me.

Just go with your heart, maybe let your wallet have a bit of a decision too but you only get to do this once so do it well!

Hi Op firstly I'm a guy so I dont really know what Im talking about :D

Id agree with other posters I think its a ncie dress but find the lace at the top a bit fussy. Im sure a good dressmaker could alter it though.

I think cos it was so cheap I was worried about it but I actually feel much better about it now. I'm based in Kildare but I got it online from dressingpod.com
I always said if it worked out it would be the best 100 euro I've ever spent!

OP I think the dress is fabulous & I can't believe you paid €100 for it! I'm definately going to try that website, that is a serious bargain you got.

Your the one who will have to wear on the day so I suppose the fact you're questioning it means you're not 100% about the top of it. Make sure you find a really good dressmaker & you shouldn't have a problem. You could try contacting Hickeys fabrics or other fabric shops as they usually have a contact list of dressmakers.

OMG, your dress is stunning. I picked mine up on saturday past, gettin married on the 4th march  . I can tell you that the dress looks absolutly brilliant on you, remember you bought it for a reason. The worst thing you can do now is keep lookin and lookin at it because you will keep finding things you dont like about it. I did that with mine, did it so much infact that i wasn't that excited going for my fitting on saturday, when i tried it on, everything changed, i was almost in tears, and remembered why i got this particular one in the first place. Since then it has been in the dress bag in my mam's house and nobody is allowed even look inside. IF i was to change one thing about yours and very big if, i would maybe add a few scattered crystal's/diamonds not too much you dont want to take away the vintage look from the lace.

And best of luck with your big day

    Hi Janbaby,

Just been looking on that website...the dresses are amazing... What is the quality like??

Also in re your dress I think its beautiful the way it is! Maybe you could just line the lace around the neck line so its not just the bare lace but I love it!!

    I like the lace.

Anyhoo I don't think a dressmaker will have any probs altering this.

Completely agree. I know if I go back & keep looking at my dress or even thinking about it that I will question my decision. Its such a big decision. I think its so easy to question have I made the right decision. I actually found it so hard to pick a dress but eventually went with one of the first I tried on that was actually the nearest to what I originally wanted & didnt need to be altered considerably unlike other dresses where there were things I would have wanted to change.

The quality is amazing, it is exactly the same as when I tried it on in the shop. The lace is the very same I couldnt believe it. I'd def recommend the website. If I decide to get another dress I'll be looking on dressingpod first!
