Vote Mr Price No.1 - boils my blood

I've seen these posters mentioned a few times on boards. Yellow diamonds with 'Vote Mr Price No.1' in red. While visiting my mother I saw them myself on almost every lamppost along the Navan Road. They are apparently in a number of constituencies around the country and if I were to guess (and I'm sure I am right) these are advertisements for a €2 shop, one of which is in the Blanchardstown Centre (used to be Tommys Wonderland). This type of stunt pulling annoys the hell out of me so I sent an email to Dublin City Council, the proper fine is apparently €150 per poster. But how do I know if this will be acted upon? I'm aware this thread is giving them publicity and they really don't deserve it. I'd like to see someone named, shamed and fined.

Has anyone else seen these poster/complained/heard of responses from local authorities?

Has the shop come forward to deny any hand act or part in this?

I've seen them around alright, it kind of annoyed me but I wouldn't get too worried about it. They will probably be fined for it I'd say as if it was legal every lamp post in the country would be covered in them 365 days a year. Maybe its legal during election times and they will take them down when the election is finished

I'd imagine you'd be done for littering then, it is 100% illegal, retailers do not get free lamppost advertising at election times, nor is it appropriate to be masquerading as an election candidate

It definetly is illegal and is prosecutable under section 19 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997.

In 2007 Tayto did a similiar thing in putting up mock election posters all over the country, which they did take down very quickly after (probably under threat of prosecution).

I can only find one reference in the limerick herald though for a prosecution for them for this. Which amounted to a whole €125 fine

Exactly, they get choice location advertising and publicity for a fraction of the cost of a quarter page ad in the Garda Records magazine. Cunning stunts going unpunished is a sop to our admiration for cute hoorism

    Is it illegal?

I was under the impression that there is a Dublin by-law that allows for the erection of posters during election time, not just political posters.

Hence how there is a lot of posters up around Dublin with poetry on them from a arts collective.

Guys, lets put this into perspective, Ive looked at their website and facebook. They are a new Company and have provided more employment around the Country in the last 6 months than many of the other candidates who have the cheek to smile down from telegraph poles at us. I say good luck to them, keep up the good work of exposing how we have been paying way over the odds for everything for years.

Another reason this Mr Price thing bothers me. New profiles on boards singing their praises. hmmm
Whoever they are you have to admire them having the initiative to wait until the storm was over and everyone elses posters blown down before they launched their campaign. The competition was blown away before they even started. Mr Price is obviously capable of weathering all storms !!

Employers or not, they need to abide by the law. A large fine may be coming their way for this which actually puts jobs in danger

'Twud be fine to rip them down and bin them yourself though. Or perhaps deliver them to the shop!

Heavens, I hope so, given that my checks confirm that you're working for them.

Rather than provide free advertising for a business here (which we don't do - I fully appreciate that the thread wasn't started on that basis), I suggest that if people find them annoying, they contact their local authority (county or city council) to report the posters as littering. They'll take a phone call. Your decision as you're the ones living locally who can provide the local authority with details.

The post by Laminations is perfectly correct - the advertising posters are breaking the law and there is a large fine for this sort of thing. Personally I think the election posters from candidates and parties (which are legal) are bad enough without someone else flinging their adverts up as well but that's just my own view.

As we don't provide free advert pimping, locking this. Oh and banning the shill.
