Today 02 have launched their own visa debit card. Works in the same way as 3v or any of them but it seems to be better value. ie. smaller loading fees and you have the option to use it at atms or at POS. Also has the added bonus that you can transfer money directly from your bank account to the card for a small fee.

    Full details here.

Cool thanks for that.. Use 3V all the time but it does have its drawbacks.. There is another similar card, forget what its called but they charge a lot for the actual card..payzone, i think it is.
This card costs 4.99 so i wonder if you can transfer balances for free or do they charge for that too..

If you mean transfering balances from one 02 money card to another it costs €1 per transfer. Unlike 3v you will only have the one card number so you shouldn't need to transfer funds too often.

Just join TSB and get a visa debit card and use it for free no fees any time you want to buy stuff etc.

I'm 99% sure it can be.. I've a ulster bank visa debit card and use it for everything, used it to book a month long holiday in the states. Used it everywhere with no problems... Tis the business..

I actually have one of the TSB ones myself but never tried with Ryanair. Usually just get the Swords Pavillion card. Would be a lot handier if I could use the TSB one.

Has anyone successfully bought Ryanair flights with a TSB Visa Debit Card without being caught for the €5 fee each way?

Ryanair charge €5 each way for visa debit.

A prepaid Mastercard from Neteller seems to be the best option.

Before you sign up to this have a look at the Money Bookers pre-paid mastercard.

No loading fee if done via laser or in a bank.

10 euro initial fee for the card.

Firstly it's 10 euro per year, not just initial fee. Secondly I thought it would be the best option too, but I was wrong. I paid for Amazon shoppings and for flights all right, but most other places would not accept this card. I tried to pay for Three phone on-line - no luck, I tried a few other on-line shops, no luck either. Even worse - I paid for SendIt DVDs and the money were taken from my account, but SendIt.com claims they didn't get my money! Their Customer Service is useless, so I tried to get Charge Back through Money Bookers. And I'm trying since a month now! First they wanted me to send some proofs of unsuccessful payment, wich I did. Then they asked me to fill and send back Claim Form, wich I did. Then they claimed they didn't get it. I tried to send it another 2 times. Still nothing. The forth try was successful, but then they told me they sent me wrong form and I have to fill another form and send it again. And so on, so on... No money, no goods, no support, no customer service. No luck. After that I tried to use another option from Money Bookers "On-Line Support" - and filled a claim about incompetence of their emploees. And gues what? I got an answer from the same person that I was complaining about (Boriana). So that's it. I'm going to spend the rest of money from my Money Bookers account and close it down together with SendIt (or StealIt) account as well. I'll get one of these Gift Cards instead. Cheers.

"If you don't top up or use your card for any payment or ATM withdrawal for 15 months, a monthly cost of €1.50 is applied until the card is topped up or used again, or until the balance is reduced to zero. Your card has not been suspended in any way during this period so you can simply use it or top it up again as normal without the need to contact Customer Care"

Does that mean that you will be charged for not using it so no point signing up and getting one just in case i might need it??? or am i picking that up wrong

    Good card apart from this:
    Foreign currency purchases:
The cost for every transaction in non-euro currencies is 2.75% of the amount.
For example, a £100 purchase will be first converted to Euro at the Visa exchange rates that apply when the transactionis settled, and then 2.75% ofthe Euro amount will becharged as the cost.

I was going to pick up one the other day but I am much happier with my prepaid mastercard there's no Inactive fees and I can put up to 15 grand on it :) You get your own pin and can take money from your bank account.

    Which card do you have?

Had a look in depth at the 02 card and the charges and t&c's are ridiculous.
I will stick with my 3v for now I think.
There is also a new one out, called Swirl, but the loading fee is a whopping 3.50
