Was driving down the Naas road just outside the royal liver retail park, stopped at the red lights junction with kylemore road . Checked the time on the digital clock on the royal liver bird sign just opposite Mcdonalds and was showing 19.01 and then checked the time on my mobile and showed same 19.01pm , so lights went green and i drove off and into the bus lane as was now after 7pm and entitled to use it . Just about 100 yards part the traffic lights was a white van (speed van)parked in the hard shoulder and then two flashes went off as i came close to the van , checked my speed was doing 36 kph so i can only assume it was because i was in the bus lane.
Can i assume that the system that the guys in those white vans use is time accurate or how do they calibrate them . why would they flash if i was legal in the bus lane
Nothing has arrived in the post as yet but would assume that they will try and do me for driving in the bus lane, however according to my time it was 19.01 pm . I take it if i go to court they will always take the speed vans version of things ....

Vans DO NOT capture bus lane evaders so that was not the case.

It may have captured another vehicle in another lane. not necessarily you. I would say this more than likely the case. These vans have a spread of a number of lanes and speak the fastest vehicle in the lane.

They are focused on one lane. And that's not going to be the bus lane.

It wouldn't surprise me if they started using ANPR for bus lane monitoring, it would be a good revenue earner. :p

We can only dream. That makes too much sense to ever happen. Those who constantly flout the law by using the bus lane and thus delay all the other road users who obey the rules of the road would be up in arms using ridiculous statements that it's "like shooting fish in a barrell".....perhaps the most over used and annoying statement to come from these people. Don't drive in the bus lane when you're legally not allowed and you should never have an issue. Don't drive higher than the posted speed limit and you should never have a problem. I've been following these guidelines and lots of others since I started driving over ten years ago and the amount of times I've had problems is a big fat ZERO.

Back to the original point, OP, you should be fine. It was after 19:00 and you were driving under the speed limit. It's not a 24 hour bus lane so I'd imagine the flash was someone in the other lane going faster than you, as already mentioned. I wouldn't lose any sleep worrying :)

OP, could you please report your speed trap observation at http://www.irishspeedtraps.com/

    TIA
