Country V Yourself

If you were given the chance to single handedly get this country back on its feet finantially or keep the entire lump sum of the money needed to do that for yourself. What would you choose?

It'd be a situation where you have no say over how the money is used or spent, you wouldn't be considered a National Hero or anything like that. If you took the money, no one would know. Also, you can't donate any of it to help the country in anyway.

I'm unsure as to what I'd do myself. I'd like to think I'd give it all away for the sake of the country but I also love the idea of being filthy f*ucking rich and not having a care in the world.

    How about yourselves?

I'd take the money and buy everyone a bag of donuts / beer

Perhaps if the political system was completely changed and a competent government put in place I would most certainly sort the country out.

If not, me and the money would be out of here.

I'd keep the money. The alternative is like pouring the money down a toilet.

I'd sort the country out but in a way that would result in me also getting lots of money and maybe help out a few of my cronies as well

If all the current parties were proscribed and their members banned from politics for life, I'd seriously consider it.

But that ain't gonna happen, so I'll take the money, tyvm.

Considering you'd never ever have to buy a drink again in your life I'd think I sort the country out.

    Can I not do both?

I don't need much to survive on.

Nope, it's just about you and the country. Not both.

If i thought the money would actually be spent properly and wisely, i'd give it to the country.
At the minute that wouldn't happen, so i'd take the money myself.

I'd sort out the country... With that amount of money you'd never spend it all yourself. Why not leave a legacy rather than leaving a big bank account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,345 ✭✭✭landsleaving

If a drunk spends all his money, and shows no sign that he would do anything differently if he had money again, I wouldn't help him. If I thought he would be able to change his life and improve it then I would.

So basically, f**k Ireland, I'll take the money and run Chris.

Ok the country but I want to be Taoiseach and hand pick my own Government.

    Deal?

Just say yes and I'll have my solicitor draw up the paperwork.

That's the thing, there will be no legacy. No one will ever know Mchael 09 bailed out the country. You'd just be another face.

    Id sort the country out.

As i would like to see people happy, Friends, family, strangers. I like the feel good factor.

having that amount of money would keep my happy for like 5 minutes. how many houses can i buy? how many cars can i buy that will really make me happier than seeing my friends and family getting on with life.

Life is short. Making others happy makes it seem to go buy not as fast.

If you have a Sulky we can have a race. A biscuit tin full of sterling to the winner.

Id give it to the country, being unknown suits me as i wouldn’t want to help Ireland just so people would know my name, id have the satisfaction of knowing Ireland is stable and irish people are once again happy (but they would still moan im sure lol)

Agreed, as it is the money would only make its way to those who deserve it least.

The country is broke and wont be fixed.

That nearly brought my lunch back up.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of educated, decent young people are forced to emigrate to find work.

This country is rotten to the core.

I'd give the money to Bertie. I think he deserves it for all he's done to better the country.

I'd take the money, but feel satisfyingly guilty about it from time to time - just guilty enough to give me a good excuse to get drunk on the finest Irish whiskey you understand.
