Thats strange when you consider "thou shalt not steal" is one of the ten commandments. Does that mean that they could go to hell for wanting to read the bible

    What would Jesus steal?

No, because stealling the Bible probably wasn't the first ever sin they committed.

kinda strange , considering it's available for free if you really want it.

    must be to sell.

There is a difference between wanting to read something and stealing it.

You can get Bibles for free from a lot of places. Anyone who steals a Bible, at least in the West, is probably doing it for reasons other than simply wanting to read it.

Apparently the Bible is the most shop-lifted book in the world - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/20/books/review/Rabb-t.html

I'm trying to work out if that's a good thing or a bad thing!

You didn't read the whole article did you? Only one store in Austin Texas reported this . Other bookstores surveyed by the former teenage shoplifter, now respected novelist,(:pac:) Margo Rabb, gave different titles, ranging widely from store to store.

The article is really an essay written by a young jewish novelist to earn some money. Lite fare like this needs to be sexed up with OMG soundbites to get brief attention from would be scholars. The NYT is really desperate to increase readerhip these days and are obviously targeting National Enquirer readers.

    1. Steal Bible
    2. Read 10 Commandments
    3. Return stolen Bible
    4. Prophet!
