Just looking at my internal netwotk. I have a GBit router, laptop, NAS, DLNA TV etc.

My NAS (QNAP TS219p) has MTU set at 1500, its the same on my laptop when I run "netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces". However, my router has it's WAN MTU set to 1492.

Is there an advantage to setting them all the same over both networks (lan and wan)?

    Many thanks

The 8 bytes taken are for the extra IPoE header needed by DSL. (1500 - 8 = 1492)

I had to alter mine last weekend. Was getting awful trouble with DNS lookups and stuff.
1492 on internal vlan interfaces and even lower still on my IPsec GRE tunnel interfaces.

As far as I know it's ok. I'm very open to being corrected if wrong!

No errors have popped up in my syslog yet! :-D
