Seeing as it appears that there is nothing especially exciting on the horizon weather-wise for the foreseeable, I thought it might be useful to post some weather and climate related journal articles to help pass the time and maybe get a bit of discussion going? It’s been awfully quiet in here lately!! ;)

Usually, papers like these are only available by paying an expensive subscription or via university libraries and even then the articles are subject to copyright, however the selection below have recently been made freely available on-line

The journal ‘Irish Geography’ publishes some weather-related articles and can be found at http://www.ucd.ie/gsi/journal.html
It’s not possible to post a direct link to these PDFs, however you can use the details below to access the relevant articles from the site menu on the left.

    VoL. 30(2)
Unexpected Meteorological Extremes: The Limerick Tornado of 1851 by John Tyrrell
    Vol. 33(1)
A three-century storm climatology for Dublin 1715-2000 by John Sweeney
    Vol. 36(2)
Climate change in Ireland: recent trends in temperature and precipitation by Laura McElwain and John Sweeney
    Vol. 37(1)
A summer outbreak of whirlwind phenomena from Dublin Bay to the Shannon Estuary by John Tyrrell

These are just a selection of the articles dealing with various aspects of climatology and meteorology that have been made available courtesy of the Armagh Observatory:

Some of these are hard to understand but this one is really good - I never knew we had tornados in Ireland like that:eek: Thanks :):)
