Undo registry tweak

A while ago I made the following registry tweak so that WMP would include MKV files in its library, and stream them via UPNP.
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mkv]
    "PerceivedType"="video"
    "Content Type"="video/mkv"

(saved as mkv.reg and double-clicked to run)

And it worked fine. It added my MKVs and could stream them via UPNP.

But for compatibility reasons, now it'd suit better for Windows NOT to pick up the MKV files in my video library. ie put it back to the way it is by default.

How would I go about undoing this registry tweak? (im running Win7 x64)

    Thanks

I would think a system restore might be the best way :)

    Seems a bit drastic :pac:

Anyway I found the .mkv entry in a different machine and it doesnt have those two lines so I will just delete them.

Should do the job, just wanted to double-check in case they already had existing values.

    Cheers anyway.

CCleaner always asks me to backup changes to the registry, then it saves a .reg copy of the registry in My Documents. if I execute one of these it goes about Merging with the registry as it exists now, in that way overwriting changes to entries if they have been altered.

System restore is nothing major, you must be confusing it with a rebuild.
System restore just restores your pc back to a snapshot.

I know what system restore is, its definitely not what I wanted to do for something so minor.
    Thanks though.

    Back up your registry.

    Open Regedit
    Open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch
    Navigate to .mkv
Remove the PerceivedType and Content Type keys completely

    Job done.
