GE11 Simulator

Just a quick one. I had intended on putting this up as a poll but it's been so long since I put a poll into a thread that "Atari Jaguar" was still a popular option to put in and I can't figure out how to do it here.

Very simply I just wanted people's opinion on how representative, they feel, the users of boards.ie are of the electorate as a whole?

Why am I asking? Well I, like many others, have used the GE11 Simulator (brilliant tool and idea) and cast my vote as I intend to cast it on polling day. I've seen the results and I was somewhat surprised by the results in my constituency. Not so much by the names but rather the numbers involved and the margins of victory on first preference etc.

So what do you think? Do you think that boards.ie is representative of the electorate? Or do you think that perhaps it isn't wholely representative?

For me the ideal way to measure this is that once the dust has settled the creators could take their results and pit them against the actual results. That way we could all see how accurate the simulator is/was. It would also help them weight the results come the next time the simulator is required.

Be interested to hear your opinions.

It will be interesting to see how it goes. I have a feeling that Boards does not cross a huge swell of voters.

I don't think polls are allowed on the politics forum.

The vote would be how I would have it after the next election. I think it would be a kick up the ass to FF if the didn't have as many seats as The Greens, the greens would need at least 2 for that to happen.

Also for www.boards.ie/vote to work each constituency would need at least 1000 votes just to confirm 1st preferences and another 1000 to confirm second preferences.

13000 so far might be good for a national poll but it needs to get 88,000 vote to be really Representative of the population. But the 13000 is only good as good as 1000 voters.

But it is an interesting poll all the same.

It is definitely interesting. Especially when your see that Haskins is the clear favourite amongst boards.ie voters in Dublin SE for example. As of yesterday afternoon he had 19% of the 1st pref. votes and was leading both Creighton and Quinn by just over 5 percentage points. Now while that is interesting I can't for the life of me believe that it is truly reflective of the populous as a whole.

Still it'll be interesting to compare the results of their poll against the actual poll. I do hope that they carry out the comparison as it will allow them to weight any future polls they may carry out.
