    Hello,

I am currently on Job Seekers allowance. Due to the Christmas break i havnt had to sign on since November. Went to the post office today and my Jobseekers has been cut off. It totally slipped my mind that i had to sign on on the 2nd of Feb. I am 2 weeks late. I am only on Jobseekers since October so i only had to sign on once before so i am not in any sort of routine per se.
I feel so stupid (hence the user name) for forgetting this. Will i loose 2 weeks pay or even more?

Right, it can be bad. Get down to the local social welfare office in person ASAP. You might not get three weeks (the two weeks you didn't get and the current week). But I can't say for certain, I'm afraid. Just be honest with them and let's say you get your money every wednesday, it was only this wednesday's money that you got cut off on? If so, you only lost last week's and might lose this weeks but just get down to the welfare office right away and explain yourself.

3 weeks. Oh my god I cannot afford to lose that much money!

How could i have been so stupid!!!!!
If i go down they will probably think i went abroad given the fact im only signing on now. What am i going to do?

just go down, at worst they will refer you to the community welfare officer.

You didn't answer my question. How many payments have you missed? It was just cancelled this week, right?

And no, they won't think you've gone abroad, at least not if you're honest.

Only one. I went to the Post office earlier today and there was no money for me.
I will be 100% honest. I have nothing to hide apart from sheer embarrassment

Alright, it's always a back payment. So you missed last weeks (as in from last wednesday to tuesday ((yesterday)). That's not so bad; if you get down in the morning and explain it should be okay. I dunno if you'll get it back. You should hopefully get this weeks one (as in from today to next tuesday, you would pick it up on next wednesday).
Though, you might miss one day's paymen which means you would only get 5/6s of your money. Or (assuming you get the full amount of 185) you'll have about 150 in the post office next wednesday.

You might have to do late signing (which I think is Friday in my SW, not sure if it's the same everywhere). And that can have you waiting a whiles icne the queues can be massive at times.

Thanks very much for the help. I will go in to the Cork office tomorrow and see what the story is. I can afford to miss one weeks payment.
is there usually a special hatch i go to?

    Again Thanks for the help.

    You're welcome. :)

I'm not sure as to what you mean exactly. If you mean for in the morning, just go to the reception and say something like "I missed my signing on, who do I talk to about it?". If you mean for the late signing, once you talk to whoever it is about nto signing on and if they tell you to do late signing on, you'll be told (or you can ask) by that person what hatch it is.

Go down to the sw office and explain to them that you forgot I would think it would be no big deal as you are only new to signing. Payment suspended will be lifted from your claim and arrears will issue so you will get two payments next week. It will take three days from the lifting of the payment suspended for the money to go through to the post office, they should be able to tell you in sw office when your money will be in the post office.

I am surprised that you did not get a letter in the post from sw office to say you did not sign as we issue them in our office as a matter of form.

All sorted today, Thanks everyone for the help. I will be issued arrears next week in the post office. I now have my sign on date plastered on the wall, stickied on the computer monitor and programmed into my phone.

God help me if i forget again!

when I was on the dole I did this a few times-no worries-they'll put it back through to the Post Office and you'll be waiting a week or two for it :)

Check the little piece of paper you get when you get your money. It should say when your signing on day is. ;)

Although, around December or so it can get messy for some of us, being that we don't have to sign on and the paper actually tells us to. Just always check the little docket you get at the post office and you should be grand if you forget.

Glad it all worked out though.

Hey all this just happened to me today. So far I've always had to sign the 2nd Tuesday of the month but it was actually last week this month. I went up to the office yesterday and they said to come in and sign on Friday. I didn't receive anything today. Hopefully I won't have a problem either.
