This is his first try for toulouse

For a guy that looks like he has had too many cakes(18 and a half stone) to still have that pace and not even look like he is out of second gear.

We talk about henson wasting his talent but Rupeni has to be one of the truly god gifted players in the history of the game. His balance, pace, step and change of direction is/was unbelieveable. And he threw it all away

he scored 15 tries in 13 games for the blues back in the day and 65 tries in 100? games for agen.

It's amazing he's never really played at 100% fitness(weight etc), who knows what he would've been capable of.

henson should not be put into the same bracket as caucau. henson was too slow to ever make it as a centre and just not good enough at out half

Check out 1.06 or so. Sums up Caucau for me, could have caught BOD but just wasn't arsed.

Caucau is one of the all time greats in my view in terms of talent, but never managed to get it together. If someone with the application of an Ian Dowling had the talent of Caucau, you'd probably have a better player than Christian Cullen, BOD and legends of that stature.

Actually, this video sums up both of them: Caucau runs down BOD once and prevents a certain try, having failed to do exactly that earlier on. He also runs one in at a trot, not even appearing to try. BOD meanwhile, sick as a dog, scores 3 tries against a top French team.

    Lets not go nuts

They were definitely a top French team at the time. They came 5th that year and 2nd the year before that.

They did get relegated in 08, but when that game was played they were a top team.

I like Horgan engaging the Sexton loop at around 5.18.

Incredible player. The highlight reel of Agen v Gloucester a few years back has some of the best sidesteps ever I've seen in rugby and the try he scored for Fiji in the world cup against France was sublime. Shame he's too fond of chilling in his hut, eating nice grub and smoking weed in the off season.

Probably my favourite rugby player of all time. Just so good its not even funny. And the fact he lives life the way he wants is admirable. The season he won French player of the year he was the best in the world.

Another thing if you look at most of his tries its a comfortable touch under the posts having burned the defence. A touch of class.

    an absolute freak.
i used to love gettin up on saturday mornings to watch this on sky sports.
the blues had a back three of howlett caucau and rokococo.

northern hemisphere rugby was such a come down at the time compared to this

It's some sort of Southern Hemisphere complex - whether it's a superiority or inferiority complex is for each of us to decide. :)

I was looking at a few of his highlight reels again and wondered what he was up to. Sounds like it might be a sad but not unexpected end to his career.

Seems he hasn't bothered turning up again for pre season and is uncontactable. He might have got away with that stuff when he was a bit younger and not just joined a new club.

People talk about wasted potential but then people still see him as one of the greatest in his prime, something like Mike Tyson.

    This is insane.

He's the biggest waster of rugby talent in the professional era, far worse than someone like Henson.

In his first season at Toulouse, Caucau was clearly not fit but was still scoring tries. If only he had his head screwed on, he would be the greatest winger ever bar none.
