I'm really pale and I want a glow on my wedding day but I don't want to be orange! I am not a huge fan of fake tan so I need advice on one that won't rub off on the dress and wont look "fake". Any suggestions???:D

Im pretty sure you will get some sort of rub from the majority of them. The thing to make sure is that the tan is brown based and not orange based. I honestly cant remember the name of the spray tan I used but it was a brown based tan, I think the majority are now though. It might be an idea to post in fashion & appearance and see what they recommend over there.

Just go for a light light tan & keep emphasisng that. Also, get a trial to make sure you are 100% happy with the result.

I would definitely get it done professionally.

St. Tropez and Fake Bake are two of the best. The is also one called Sun Fx which I believe to be excellent but have never used.

    Where are you based?

Isnt Sunfx the original spray which was orange based though, I used it a few years back and it gave a very strong colour which may be too much for the OP.

I honestly don't know, I've just heard lots of folk say it's very good so you could well be right (sorry OP). The other two I mentioned have a green base which counteracts any orange to give a more natural look.

My sister is very fair and uses both St Tropez and Fake Bake and they do look great on her.

OP just make sure you test your tan first a few weeks prior to the big day and if you dont want a strong colour tell the beautician that, no point in going to dark if you dont think it will suit.

Thanks girls, I'll get a trial done soon enough. The wedding is in Sept so I've loads of time to look around. Bridesmaids wont need spray tan cos both of them will be off travelling all summer (teacher...so jealous). More pressure on me to have a natural looking tan!!!

    Hey OP,

Have been thinking about this one myself (getting married in July)

Just an option for you to try out as you have the time, may not work for you but I find the best way to get a more natural gradual tan is using the palmers cocoa butter natural bronze (its like the johnsons holiday tan etc) it smells devine too....it doesn't rub off on clothes either

I like it as it gives a more subtle effect and you can gradually build up the colour easier than applying a "fake tan". I generally apply it all over (instead of using my moisturiser) for about 2days and then every 2nd or 3rd for upkeep...

As I said it may not be something you're interested in but worth a shot! Am tossing up the idea of going this route myself but may get lazy and go for the instant anyway :D

I was thinking about those tinted creams. I used Garnier before it was great. I suppose I just have it in my mind that it needs to be done professionally or it wont be good enough which is so silly!

I completely agree with you...have that in my head too!

Although if there's one thing I've learned planning a wedding it's that professional (and the price tag that comes with it) doesn't always mean better except in the obvious bits like photographer etc (the old disposable camera wouldn't do as well in that case) hahah :D

Would you not consider doing a sunbed course as a one off thing in the run up to your wedding? I did this when I was a bridesmaid and I found it’s the only way to have a tan not rub off on the dress and it’s natural looking.

I know sunbeds aren’t good for you but as a one off..

I dunno about sunbeds with the increase in skin cancer and all that! I tend to go freckly in the sun more than brown so would it be worse on the sunbed? They are so bad for u tho, I don't know if its worth it.

OP, do not follow this advice. Go on a sunbed and destroy your skin, increase the risk of skin cancer, just to look orange? You can totally tell a sunbed tan compared to the normal glow you get from being out in the sun and being careful, because a sunbed tan is orange looking. It is not natural looking.

You said you are really pale. I think a person with sallow skin going on a sunbed is insane, nevermind a person with pale skin - it's just so dangerous. You cannot compare a sunbed to you going freckly in the sun. Under the sunbed you're under the direct rays, with the sun it is not as intense, presumably you'd have skin protection on.

I don't see a need anyway to even put on a fake tan. You're pale - it's your natural colour, why feel pressurised to put on fake tan, if you don't like to wear it normally? But if you feel you need to, just use Fake Bake or St Tropez like the others suggested or one of those gradual tan creams like Johnsons.

I made a suggestion like the OP asked, and I'm sure she can decided all by herself which suggestions to follow.

Pale skin is totally in at the moment. The orange ompa lumpa look is totally out. I understand a white wedding dress can wash people out.

Ive never tried this product, but i hear of alot of make up artists on youtube such as pixiwoo and lisa eldridge talking about it and its MAC Face and Body Foundation.

Anytime I do my own make up, I bring the foundation down to my neck. I usually use the L'Oreal body makeup in a spray can...but i suspect MAC Face and Body would be more long lasting and less likely to come off?

The benefit of that is, you could do a light coverage over your shoulders and arms. It would be uneccessary to do your whole body...or parts people wont see and therefore less likely to stain the wedding dress.

Op, I've got the same problem as you and I think I'm just gonna go with my natural shade after all :o , I've used Sally Henson spray tan before for a christmas party and it was brilliant but for a wedding I don't want any faux pas and it would be glaringly obvious.

If I was gonna go fake, I probably would do 2 or 3 sessions on the sunbed even though I can't stand them. I think theyr'e safe enough in moderation though and even scientists have backed down on their danger. Another reason I might do this is cos recently I've started getting spots on my back  which I've never had... but in one of the bridal shops, the owner was a former nurse and advised me a few sunbed sessions would clear it right up.

Hey HH, Im no sunbed user but I will say that I had a friend with severe psoriasis and she was advised by her doctor that sunlight or sunbeds would help clear her skin. Now again, I dont use them, there has been history of skin cancer in my family so not something I would consider but they did work to clear that girls skin, I should say it was 10 yrs ago or more since she wasa dvised.

I used to get 'fantasy' fake tan done, you could choose from a few different shades and they had an extra option that could be put over your tan to give you a nice shimmer.....never tried it but it sounds fab, if you got a nice medium tan applied and then a shimmer it would look gorgeous!

Just looked it up there actually, it's called twinkle tan, i'm not sure but you could probably even get it done with no fake tan under it, you would have to ring up a salon that uses the fantasy tan to check with them.

I went with the daily moisturiser. Like you I wanted a glow for my wedding but didn't want to look really tanned or orange. I used Dove for about a week before the wedding but not the day before or the day of. I was meticulous about exfoliating during this period, and beforehand I was making sure I was moisturising everyday with a normal moisturiser. The trick is the make sure you have as smooth and healthy a canvass of skin as possible. Give it a try for a week and see how you get on. Dove have a ligth one or a darker one. I used the darker one cos I take a pretty good tan (but I hate sitting in the sun and am terrified of being burnt). In my photos I don't look very tanned but I dont' look really pale either.

If your dress shows a bit of back you might want to get someone to rub the Dove into your back every day aswell to make sure it's all even.

You have plenty of time so I would definitely trial this option either now or when it comes into the summer.

Thank you :o I've recently been diagnosed with eczema too :o and it's slightly worrying that I might get an outbreak on that day. I went on a sunbed once and got quite claustrophobic and stopped it but it is something I would consider using once or twice.
