Who's running the country these days

Quick question. With every one out canvassing these days and Brian Cowan retiring, who is running the country?

Has everything being put on hold till the new government is elected or is the country drifting along aimlessly?

Could it be a case of everyone is so busy fighting over who gets to steer that when they turn around the ship has sunk?

P.S sorry about all the nautical metaphors

The Cabinet still meets regularly, and they are in charge with Brian Cowen being Taoiseach. He is still Taoiseach and the ministers still have their portfolios until such time as a new Government is formed. If necessary I imagine a full Dáil can still be called and legislation passed, but there doesn't appear need for it until after the General Election.

Agreed. With most of the day-to-day stuff being done, as always, by civil servants.

Not agreed. The Dáil has been dissolved.

No one is running the country since the develops/politicans/bankers went bust a few years ago.

Say in the case of a national emergency though - wouldn't their be some form of legislation to allow the last government pass some emergency legislation...

I know the dail is dissolved but surely their has to be some sort of loophole or something to allow some bills to be passed if neccesary

National emergency? You mean like some sort of financial crisis or something?

Ok so I thought it was civil servants.

But if a current minister comes to my door canvassing I will give them some bollixing for being out canvassing instead of doing the job they are still being paid to do
