I'm sniffing at 2 WRX's, the 2.5 litre version, non sti.....one an estate, the other saloon....07-08. Both cars can be got for a steal. Now that's my problem. Would I be plagued re secuirty issues? The estate looks fairly benign re looks......fuel consumption not an issue as I dont do big mileage but looking for a 4 wheel drive, bit of boot space and a bit of poke as well.

    Thanks in advance

Had an STi ...thought it was an amazing car and wasnt too pricey to run.
Drove a good few WRX's as well, i think they are great for the money.
If you dont mind the image they have in Ireland now i would go for it.
    Never had any "security" issues.
    Mine had a tracker fitted.

not interested in an evo.....I appreciate they are a great car but I need a more user friendly daily. The estate appeals to me as it's not so much in your face re the rear wing and the boot space appeals. LO'C have that blue one with low miles but they arte looking for strong money.

You could buy a Forester with the same engine - nobody's going to try to steal that.

To be honest, i newer knew subarus got a bad image in ireland? Or anything that is more then 1.4 is clasified as "bad image" car?

Check on tax with 08 ones. As i really dont think those will be emision friendly. As for being mad... Not at all, its a 4 door saloon or estate. Its a reasonable car with some power when you will need it. Awd will be handy too

08s are €935 on the old system, were they on the new CO2-based system they'd be €2100pa. I'd be amazed if any were registered after 31/06/08.

Tread very carefully. These will be some of the most difficult cars to buy without making a potentially expensive mistake.

They have short service intervals, and are likely to have endured some hard miles. Check for accident damage everywhere. Check service history meticulously. Cross check invoices with the garage.

A good one could be a bit of a performance bargain, but a bad one could be a nightmare.

If you can afford the running costs very comfortably that bits not mad.

The mad bit is not buying the right version. Buy the turbo version the difference is night and day.

They're both 2.5 turbos, AFAIK the WRX gives 227bhp and the STI around 280bhp. The 227bhp engine at least is very easy to live with, and servicing isn't too onerous - it needs oil & filters every 15k kms/1 year. In manual form it's good for 5.5ish secs 0-100km/h in either the Impreza or the Forester, so quick enough for most. Likes a drink, though. In the Forester it's a complete sleeper, there's literally nothing to advertise the performance. The Impreza is a bit more 'look-at-me'.

Check out www.isdc.ie (i'm always advertising them :pac:)

Lads on their will be able to help.

They'll probably help to even sell you a well minded one.

    Love the auld Subaru's.

well, had a spin in a wrx I was looking at today......before all the skangers go on the rob, bad news....it ain't quick as in the wrx by a country mile. It's a sure footed car, good brakes, cornering excellent but runs out of grunt very quick imo re is it a mad thing......post 5k rpm it's gasping. It's nippy though, it's good from say from 30mph (im old in my mid 40's) to 70-80mph and this is what I'm out for. As for super car grunt.....nope, not even at the races.....been there. The STi I'm sure is there as is the 320 version. I'll think about it over the weekend.....I reckon I can do the grunt of all the servicing myself. Found the gearbox a bit notchy but surefooted, interior a toyo special with more plastic than ever, seats comfy...leather I was in. The price I'm being offered this wagon, it's on one of the main car sites......well with the mileage is just very bloody tempting. Any more heads up?

We had an STi for two years. Only issues I ever had with it were idiots in Glanzas and the like trying to put it up to you on the road, it attracted a lot of arseholery.

Security-wise, never had it followed or a drive-by on the house. It had a Clifford alarm with a blackjack anyway, so no-one would have gotten far in it even if they'd tried.

    God, I miss that car.
