Connecting my netbook to auld TV

    Hi folks,

I have a samsung netbook that I would like to connect to my TV to watch Divx films etc. My TV is not top of the range however and am just wondering what I can do with it. It has two scarts and an RCA (Yellow, White and Rd) connectors and is a 21" I think. It does not have VGA, HDMI or DVI inputs. The netbook has a VGA output.

Can I connect the netbook to the TV with this setup? If so, what cable/Adapters might I need to buy?

Would the end quality be worth it or would I be better off buying a media player and hooking my Ext hard drive to that and then to the TV via RCA cables?

    Thanks for any help.

dont bother with adapters, they rarely work right.
and make sure the media player has composite video output listed in spec.
RCA not always connected in hardware.

Well, the trade off wouldn't be noticeable for standard definition content such as ripped DVD's etc.
But for anything of higher resolution you'd notice a severe dip in quality.

You'd have to lower the resolution of your screen output aswell, you'll barely be able to read the text on screen.

Seeing as you have no S-Video output, I think you can get a VGA to s-video conversion box. Not 100% how they'd perform, but you could give it a shot.

Now, you may need a scart adapter that takes S-video too. but you can buy those as part of a pack in any of those cheap electric shops around or even sometimes the eurocity's.

Thanks a mill for the replies. I gather that I might just be better off getting a new media player rather than getting conversion boxes/adapters etc. At least it would be compatible in the future when I get the sterlings for a new TV! It might be too much hassle trying to connect the netbook and the quality of the end result might not have been worth the effort. Cheers.
