sticking a number plate on

    Hi all,

Quick question. My car's rear number plate is fixed in place by only one screw on the right. It used to have a sticky tabs on the other side to keep it level. They have now worn away. I've tried replacing them with double sided sticky tabs but I think the washing weakens them and they're useless already.

Does anyone know of any good product out there that would do the job?

    Thanks,

    S.

Maybe a silly answer but did you try a screw? Or is there something wrong with the bumper?

Have you tried coco-pops and a drop of milk?

    Hi,

There is no drill hole for a screw and I wouldn't have a screw cover. Would rather not have to put in a screw if I didn't have to.

Just looking for a good adhesive that will stick to the car paint and plate.

    Cheers.

The parts counter in Halfords usually has plate fixing adhesive pads and screws etc.

That stuff is the strongest bond known to man. It's like they're spot-welded on to the bowl when I'm cleaning the kids' cereal dishes :)

It's unusual to only have one screw hole - was the plate ever replaced, and the new one covering an old screw hole on the left?

If its got one screw holding one side in then just put another screw in the other side, simple as can be.

Front bumper is the easy one to do - if it's a plastic bumper cover.

Self tapping screw, power drill/screwdriver and a screw head cover. Takes about 20 seconds with a decent self tapper.

Drilling in to the boot of a new €50,000 BMW and hoping you don't hit a support strut in the boot - that takes some balls!

You can use adhesive pads but proper ones designed for automotive use.

Alternatively use a plate holder that mounts to the car and the plate sits into it.

I always use velcro. Never had a problem with the numberplate falling off except going through a flood once!

I use the 1mm adhesive strips and they work great, even with heavy stamped metal plates.

Thanks. I didn't want to post that link :pac: for fear of advertising.

The 6mm are the business too.
