Heels at concerts

Would you wear heels at a concert?

I was having a debate with a friend about this yesterday. I'd often wear heeled shoe boots at gigs either with jeans or black tights+skirt/casual dress but she was adamant that this was a fashion no-no. Now I agree that if youre going to moan about your feet hurting all night and be in the middle of a mosh pit that this is a bad idea, but if your someone who can handle heels without pain while standing for the night and have no intention of pushing madly through the crowds to get front row centre, do you think its acceptable to wear heels at a concert? I find that flats mean I cant see a damn thing and as a short-arse I like to wear heels for a bit of confidence!

All opinions appreciated to sort our debate :D

Depends on the concert. If it's a mellow thing go ahead sure. If there's going to be jumping/dancing around, I personally would feel very uncomfortable near someone in heels. Just because you don't find it painful doesn't mean the toes next to you wont!

I'm not saying you're going to leave everyone with holes in their feet or aimlessy bounce around with no regard, just that I'd feel like I had to split my attention between the band and the girl in heels next to me, making sure I didn't get stepped on.

If it's outdoor, heels look idiotic - the amount of people I've seen in stilettos going to Phoenix Park/Marlay etc and they all look awkward and silly.

At a standing gig heels can be difficult. I do tend to wear biker style boots with a fairly high block heel - otherwise I won't see anything - but anything skinnier I'd be afraid of standing on someone's toes!

Ok so obviously (or so I woulda thought) wearing heels at festivals / outdoor gigs is plain silly!
But Im talking the usual concert in the o2/tripod/olympia etc : I just find its easier than carrying a step ladder around with me if I plan on chilling out at the back with a drink to watch the band. My friend seems to think that jeans/cons/band tee is the uniform for a gig, whereas my thought are; we're not 14 anymore, we dont have wear that just because we are at a gig. The main issue was heels I found. I agree its different if your gonna be smushed up in a crowd, but thats not how I do gigs anymore (again, not since I was a lot younger.)

That said, bon jovi in june and I wouldnt dream of wearin heels at it cuz I wanna get stuck in-I suppose it just depends on the gig.

Oh yeah, if you are down the back or at least out of the main crowd heels are fine, in my book. I don't do 'uniforms' anywhere not to mind at gigs.

re: outdoor - have seen it so many many times. Admittedly Robbie Williams in Phoenix Park was the worst, that shouldn't be surprising :)

I don't really think of it as a fashion no-no, just in terms of comfort! I always wear flats because I like to dance at gigs, but if you're short I guess the extra height is needed. Unlike a bar or whatever, you're standing for about 3 hours straight, being jostled, I couldn't wear heels!

And I don't understand people who them to festivals. I never will.

The only type of heels that I'd personally be comfortable with wearing to a gig would be thicker block heels attached to boots :), rather than stiletto type heels with shoes (boots don't tend to slip off/wobble about, and give a bit of ankle support).

If it's a sedate, seated affair then any type of heels would be grand so long as you're comfortable. It's just for standing around - even down the back of a bigger gig - I'd prefer to have comfy thicker solid heels so that I'm not constantly aware of wearing them, IYKWIM, or worried about accidentally standing on someone's foot if I step back a bit. Stilettos are horribly painful to get jammed into the top of your foot!

Anything outdoors - definitely no heels!

I wore heels to a concert once. Once. It was U2 in Croke Park. The shoes were comfortable generally but after the walk to Croker, then standing for the duration of the show, followed by a walk back to get the bus, well, a limp back to get the bus I wanted to burn the shoes and my feet. Not an experience I'd like to repeat.

Regardless if you can stay in the heels, think of the people you will be standing on!

It depends on the event, If you are going to be in a crowded place and dancing it's probably going too be painful. For festivals out of the question. Saw a girl at Electric picnic in gorgeous six inch heels she later sprained her ankle!

I don't think it's a fashion no-no, but I have to say if I saw someone at a concert in anything higher than two-inch heels I would wonder why on earth they were wearing them to a place where they've to stand for hours. If it was seating I wouldn't look twice but standing I'd think it was a bit strange. Also if you're tall I think adding heels to that in standing is a bit selfish. I'm 5'8 and I'd never wear heels to a concert in case I blocked the view of someone smaller standing behind me.

Well I wore heals once and NEVER again! Like you are going to be standing for hours as you will usually be there early enough and then the concert never starts anywhere near on time so you are inflicting needless pain on yourself by wearing heels.

I don't think fashion would come into it for me. Comfort though is a whole nother story!

I would never wear heels to a gig. I swear by drawstring bags (swimming type bags).
If I'm going to the pub first: Heels on feet, handbag in hand, flat shoes and drawstring bag in handbag.
At gig: Heels and handbag (and even coat) in drawstring bag, flat shoes on feet.
After gig: revert to before gig combo :D

Not since the first time I did it, no. Fold-up ballet pumps in your handbag ftw.
