    Thanks!

This seems nice though coming in with a 23" frame you'd want to be well over 6 foot to ride it. If you are i reckon you'd haggle it down to €500.

If you want to buy new, bikes like the trek 7.1 are popular, depends on what you want to use it for and what kind of distance you'll be clocking up on it.

Can you avail of the bike to work scheme? If so then you could look at a bike worth €1000 for around €500

Thanks guys. I think I can avail of the bike to work scheme but only for the 20% off rate. Was also looking at this bike for 550? http://www.feltbicycles.com/Ireland/2011/Mountain/QX-Series-Men/QX70.aspx What do you think?

If you can go on the bike to work scheme its worth checking out the cycle superstore in tallaght, they give an additional 10% off on any bike to work purchase. I'm just waiting on the company cheque to clear before picking up my Giant Seek!

I'd advise you go out and try a few of the bikes (you probably were going to do this anyway) cause I had set myself a higher budget than the Seek and tried out a few what would be considered by many to be "better" bikes, but I just liked the feel of the Seek so went for that in the end. Also the guys in the cycle superstore were great, there was no attempt made to up sell me on anything.

what are you gonna be using it for? any reason you're looking for a hybrid only?

Thanks again guys. Well I'm from Galway but know of a shop that gives the extra 10%off up here as well. They specialise in felt bikes though. These bikes look nice but does anyone have any idea of the quality? G rock, the bike would mainly be used for commute but also for fitness purposes. My last bike was a decathlon road bike which I used cycling around town regularly. I would like a hybrid as I like cycling around at pace but don't really want a road bike again as I'm looking for a more comfortable cycling position. Wouldn't like a mountain or city bike.

Have a look at 29ers too, they're so much fun and will roll over anything, if you want to commute just swap out the tyres. I can vouch for raleigh metro hybrids (some experts will blank them but I've had a few), you'll find a few here http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/category/644/Clearance_Hybrid_Bikes
I've had a few bikes from winstanleys and had no problems

Hi guys I'm planning on cycling the N1 everyday into the city centre from Swords. I was wondering what type of bicycle would be most suitable? I think road bikes are very cool and I like the idea of zipping along, but I'm not sure how good of condition the roads are and I dont want to spend so much money on something that will give me more hastle than functionality.

    A road bike.

the best hybrid I ever got was secondhand from a hostel in Cork, think it was like 80 pounds or something like that. At the end of they season they were selling off their rental bikes, I think they had made their money on them and not worth storing them.

Do hostels or even bike rental shops still do this, sell off last years stock?

It was a Raleigh Tourer, this was very comfortable, came with a solid but light pannier on the back, great for commuting, going drinking on and regularly did 40 mile spins at a 20mph avg , I was much fitter back then.
I think all those long tempo spins on that guy served me well on the road bike.

Get yourself a secondhand one.. save a bike, remember a bike isnt just for Christmas ;-)

Looking for a hybrid bike that is of good quality lightweight, fast, reliable, has good suspension and comfort up to a max price of 1000. Was looking at Trek FXs 7.4 and 7.5, Giant Roam 1s and Giant Escape RX Discoveries, Kelly's Coach and Exquisite bikes, Cube CLS Ltd Bikes, KTM Lite Sprints and Ridley Tempo Xs. I was quite impressed by Merida Crossways 100-D and 300-D and their speeder bike series. I also heard good reviews about the Boardman Mx Race Bike in Halfords. Would anybody have any advice on which bike would be most suitable?

Don't get a hybrid with suspension. If you want to go mountain biking, get a mountain bike with suspension. Otherwise you just waste energy bouncing up and down on roads where you don't need it.

I seen some cool ones like the Merida Crossway 100-D where u can turn a switch on the front that locks the suspension for when ur going on roads would that make a difference?

It is better to get one with a lock-out, but it's still pretty heavy.
