    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Did you take down the reg? Or take any pics? The lads here would be able to tell you what it is from those. But whatever it is, don't keep your hopes up. Whatever Golf (GTI) it is, if it is in a bit of a state, it's worth a few hundred at best...

An original GTi doesn't have four front headlights. Only two. Only the 83 Pirelli and a couple of later special editions had the 4 headlights.

This did however prove a popular conversion and a lot of Gti and normal Golf received this 'make over', but it's not a tell-tale sign that the car is a GTi.

Look for the rear tail lights. If they are the small units on early mk1 first series, it might be worth investigating if it's a genuine GTi, but as unkel states, if she's rough, it's not going to be worth much regardless...

Weren't the Rabbit's for the American market only?

The square headlights were the American-only sealed beam headlights.

    Yes, like that: the "UR-GTI".

There's quite a following for these UR-GTI's in Germany and Holland and I have seen immaculate UNMODIFIED :D examples for for well in excess of 10k!
There's an showroom standard example for sale in Germany as we speak for a whopping 18,5k... Now that's dreamland territory for an old and battered Irish car, but the car in the above picture could have the potential to be a very good car and in well restored condition should fetch 5-8k... However, in Ireland and the UK the market is a lot more realistic so even that figure might be hard to obtain, but from a general point of view, it might be worthwhile checking if it's a genuine first series Mk1 GTi.

Kev1.3 is the car in your picture going to be 'revived' at some stage?
