Bring everything in that they ask.

They want your parents info because I assume you are still living at home. You won't get it backdated as you have only applied now. If you are successful in your claim, you will get it back dated from when you applied. Waiting lists can vary but I think it's normal for about 9 weeks. You will get it backdated unless you need money every week, in which case you go to your local community welfare officer. The person taking your application can tell you who your local officer is and where they sit.

I don't think your grant will affect your payments. From what I can tell you won't be entitled to Jobseeker's benefit, but instead jobseeker's allowance. This is means tested. You will only be eligible for a particular rate. I will post the link below.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_allowance.html#l62fd2

They will also ask if you have a bank account with any savings etc. Be honest and bring in a statement. They might not need a statement at the beginning but you will be asked sooner or later anyway. Unless you have several thousand in your account you don't have to worry.

They won't back date him for the time he left college. If he was to apply tomorrow the 16-02-2011, he won't get paid until his claim has been processed. In the mean time he can go to a community welfare officer who will assess if he needs to be paid in the mean time. If he doesn't go to a CWO and his claim is processed, he will get paid all monies owed to him dating back to the 16-02-2011.

OP, You do realise that because you were awarded a full grant for this academic year, if you return to college next year it's highly unlikely that you will be awarded another grant.

They don't give grants to people that have dropped out of previous courses.....

only for the years he has completed. if he only did one year then he will be eligible for grants again in second year, if he did two he'll get them for his third year etc.
