Start the laptop in safe mode, when it's starting press f8 and start in safe mode with networking, then remove the virus.

Turn it on and hit "F8" continuously; this will allow you to boot into a recovery partition which will enable you to wipe it back to stock.

Okay, what happens when you turn it on. Viruses generally do not just "kill" a computer. It should still turn on. If it doesn't something else has gone wrong.

Give us a detailed description of what happens after you hit the on button. The more detailed the better.

It's a long shot but did you try taking the battery in and out.

Must have been a pretty bad virus or it might not be a virus at all it could be hardware failure if it won't even try and start.

Where did you buy it? You are still covered under Irish consumer law. Not signing a warranty card makes no difference to this.

The laptop should still turn on. Turning on my dell laptop will show a "Dell" logo before it does anything, this is the same for all makes. If this is not showing on your machine something is broken and you should take it back.

Have you any files that need recovering on the lappy?
Will save a lot of hassle if you don't.

If you can't boot or do anything from the lappy itself though, the only other option might be to see if you can nab one of these off a mate or something.

    http://www.dabs.ie/products/best-value-2-5--sata-hdd-enclosure-aluminium-usb-2-0-5JFF.html

You remove the HDD from the lappy, stick her in that, connect that up to another PC and wipe the HDD.
Then stick the problem HDD back into your lappy and hope it lets you re-install Win7.

Voila, your laptop is back in action again.

If the laptop turns on (I'm really not sure what its doing even after reading the thread)
    Download this
    http://www.dban.org/

Its the best HDD cleaner I've ever used.

It boots when you turn on the machine. Doesn't need windows.

If you have a bad virus they can infect the boot sector of the drive and can also lie dormant on the drive even after a "clean" install of windows.

So your best bet is to download this, it will completely blank the drive. Then put windows back on.

If the laptop wont turn on, try taking out the ram and replacing the sticks one at a time, each time trying to boot the machine.

Remove the hdd and see if it will turn on without it.

You may have a bad component, and if so you better hope its a removeable/replaceable one.

Have you been able to use the laptop at all since you bought it? Was it in working order when you started using it?

Ye it worked for a few days! Not to long?

Is the laptop, taking a charge? i.e is the actual charge light lighting when you plug it in?

Are you sure the battery has any power in it at all? charger / battery could be broken. Also did you drop it. Was it knocked over by anyone? It could have a cracked motherboard quite easy to do on a tiled floor.

I think you need to bring it somewhere for assessment tbh.

In theory, provided the HDD is just corrupted rather than actually broken, it should show up as extra storage on your other PC. Then you can format/wipe it, from said PC.
