I think that number is from a lovely Nigerian chap who emailed me a few months ago. How interesting it was to be contacted by a genuine Prince, if you don't mind. I only had to lodge 20k in his account and he said he would share 15 million with me.

I'm sure the cheque is in the post.... :)

Yep, got it. 900K! I tried ringing the number (0861072061) and surprise surprise the voicemail message says the user is not available.

I am setting up an email address now so that I can mail the nokiapremium_live.com addr to see what they ask me to do. No doubt send them my bank details so that they can lodge my winnings. Will keep you posted :)

You're gonna try cash a cheque for 15 Million Euro? Good luck with that...the bank are gonna give you some strange looks. Ask him to send you 10 x €1.5M cheques.

    You are welcome:cool:

    Oh,noes

    Founded Tampere, Finland (1865)
    incorporated in Nokia (1871)

Nokia was incorporated 140 years ago. The text must have been sent 100 years ago & got caught in a timewarp or somethin....

You'd think that Nokia would have their own mail servers, rather than relying on Gmail. Perhaps that 900k would be better spent on their IT infrastructure?

Don't know about that.... Mr Nokia could've been abducted by Rock 'n' Roll lovin' aliens way back, and they could've been texting each other for ages...

Email address has been shut down.
The wife got one of these texts yesterday - she has a samsung phone.

I wonder where they got the numbers for this one - its the first mobile phone based phising scam I have seen so far and hopefully not a sign of things to come.

    Yeah, I think you're lying.

I emailed them explaining to them how I got one of these texts etc, and this is what they replied with:
Thank you for contacting Nokia Care. We appreciate that you have chosen Nokia as your preferred device.

With regard to your email, please be advised that Nokia has been made aware of several hoax messages on mobile phone promotions or lottery campaigns, sent via e-mail or SMS in the name of Nokia. Nokia has not initiated any such campaigns, and has nothing to do with them.

Nevertheless, we are aware of the messages circulating regarding this issue. We have started to investigate the origins of this hoax and will take the appropriate actions. We regret the inconvenience caused by the action of the individual/s who have perpetrated these hoax messages. Please ignore these messages and do not pass them on.

In addition to this, please note that we do not have idea on how these individual/s obtained your mobile number. The best thing you can do is to delete them right away and you may also inform your relatives on how hoax messages should be dealt with.

We appreciate your effort in forwarding this information to us.

As you can see, no mention of them sending me a free phone.

Now unless your email was so pretty and sincere that it could bring a tear to the eyes of Lucipher, there is no way you are telling the truth.

    Did you complain enough?
Did you make a fuss and ask for compensation for your time?
They aren't just going to offer you a phone, tell them how annoyed you are. Did you get a complaint reference number, using this contact them again and kick up a little bit of a fuss.

I see what you mean - and to be honest I apologise to you for jumping to conclusions.

I think I'll just leave it there, because in fairness it's not Nokia's fault - this could have happened to anyone.

But just out interest, what did you say to them re the phone etc? Feel free to PM it to me if you do not want to post it here. Cheers.

Just contact them again and tell them that you are still recieving these texts on an hourly basis. Ask them for advice on how you can stop the messages, that it is annoying you.

I jokingly asked can I have a new phone to make up for the hassle. Bingo, phone on the way.

    Try again.

They just pick number ranges they know are active and spam every number within that range. Nobody gave them *your* number specifically.

I actually was receiving them on a regular basis; they appear to have stopped for the time being however.

I may do that, but sure as I said it's hardly their fault. However, when you think about it, we have done them
a favour by reporting it and thus helping to protect their interests.

They aren't going to be bothered by handing out a few free phones. I am guessing it's a part of their customer care policy.

Couldn't disagree with you more there Kasabian. You're pushing the cost of you BS onto Nokia, and Nokia needs to make that money back through someone. That means increased phone costs for everyone else.

Anyways I also got one of these texts. It's an obvious scam, but it's good to report these and start topics and such so that other people, who might be les s sure of it being a scam, can be alerted.
