Very very Annoying Bathroom Problems in New Apt.

Just moved into anew apartment and I have two problems with the bathroom!

The first is our toilet. There is as trong smell of urine coming from the drain. Not sure what is causeing it. We have scrubbed the toilet and put bleach down it, and it still wont go. I know its coming up from the toilet drain because when we put the lid down on the loo, you cant smell it. Im not sure if it's the drainage system in the apartment complex or if there's a blockage in the toilet somewhere?

2nd problem is the shower. We have a shower head that is attatched to taps in the bath. There are two taps with a lever which turns from left to right to control the temperature. The water is heated through immersion in the hotpress. For some reason whenever we turn on the cold tap, the water flow stops completely. TheN starts ten seconds later. So basically, unless you can withstand a scalding hot shower, we have to put up with the shower stopping and starting every ten seconds. Its so frustrating! I dont think it is an airlock. You can hear the water flow stopping in the hotpress, so I think the problem is i there somewhere.

If any one has any solutions for either of these problems I would really appreciate it.

1st problem sounds like the multiwick at the back of the toilet isn't properly connected, if there's water in your toilet the smell can't rise through it,logic says it's the multiwick.

As you live in an apartment I'd assume that the second problem is a pump issue, nothing too serious I'd imagine, but I can't be sure unless you actually do have a pump.

Agreed with multiwick on 1st problem.

I am wondering if the 2nd problem is a leak on the outlet of the pump. If there was a leak, the water would 'drain' back to the pump and when you turn on the tap again, it would take some seconds for the pipe to fill again under the pressure of the pump until it got to the outlet??

    Mike.

The hot is always on the left ,make sure the hot is on the left side of the taps. Some bath/shower mixer taps have a thermostat ,it won't work properly if the pipes are mixed up.

No the hot taps are on the right in this apartment on all the sinks and the bath/shower

The problem you're having is the same as what happens when the pipes are mixed at the shower.

Try the shower when the water is only tepid/warm and see if it makes a difference.
