1415 John Gormley feels there is potential for agreement between his party and Fine Gael to form a government after the election.
Mr Gormley said Fine Gael had plagiarised some of the Green Party's policies - he sees this as a compliment.
    From http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0215/election_tracker.html

If I were Enda Kenny, I'd say on your bike to them. Why would FG want anyone who served with the last govt around, when they could rely on Independents to form a Cabinet?

Smacks of desperation from Gormley, the Greens are after all facing annihilation.

Eh, the Greens have always been agnostic about potential partners in Government amongst the larger parties. Nothing unusual or surprising with the Greens saying they'd support a FG Government. Might even be a decent deal for FG given the Greens will only be looking for a small number of policies implemented in exchange for support.

That said, the Greens would be doing superbly to get 3 TDs in the next Dáil and aren't going to be a major option for coalition partner so perhaps it's all a moot point.

To be fair to the Greens, while they did get into bed with the devil they weren't responsible for what led up to the current crises.

But they're despised by most people. Would be impressive for FG to start off with such an unpopular move.

EVERYBODY in that particular bed was responsible.
The Greens sold their souls and then reneged on their own election promises. Nothing unusual there as far as Politics in this country goes but they hyped themselves up as being a credible alternative.
    Major Fail IMO.

Meh, Greens never got any more than 5% of the vote.

True and I personally won't be voting for them. They are still not on FF's level though.

one needs just two words describe them, political whores, they would go into bed with any party to have a little power to screw the country with another draft stealth taxes.

I actually don't get this hatred of the Green Party.

To say they are despised by most people isn't really true in my experience.

While I don't have any time for the environmental nonsense Gormley, Sergeant and Ryan are among the most principled and decent people in politics.

Going into coalition with FG wouldn't be that much of a surprise to be honest.

Would definitely be favourable to having to share power with Labour.

So it’s OK to continue land filling, wasting water, wasting energy, building endless energy wasting houses, having 90 kids each etc., - unfortunately the only way to arrest this reckless Irish trait is to get the polluter to pay. We don't seem to be able to do this all by ourselves unless forced to via the pocket or have a civilised European country dictate to us how to behave.

The Greens should be let wither and die after overdosing on toxic FF. They got too much sun for a small party and now must be cast aside.

No, they might suddenly develop principles.
