£228 is with uk vat. Comes to £235 with irish vat which is roughly €281. Nice deal but bit risky if you [ps3] have probs.

Yup its only €19 cheaper than buying the Console only off gamestop. Really, really frustrating that PS3 prices are so high for an almost 5 year old console. I have a €100 gamestop voucher I want to buy a console with and I would have jumped at the Arcade 360 [~€125] were it not for the fact I want to be able to play some of my big collection of PS2/PS1 games seeing as the PS3 is backward compatible [and my poor old PS2 gave up the ghost].

    Anyway; fookyoo Sony

    Wiki suggests otherwise; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3_Backwards_incompatible_PS2_and_Playstation_games_list

Maybe its down the PS3 type - the 320GB isn't listed on the wiki as being one of the incompatible ones.

Only the 20GB, 60GB and 80GB models can emulate ps2 games for backwards compatibility, all of which are not manufactured anymore

but all machines can emulate ps1 games

Only the very first version of the fat PS3 could play backwards comp games.

    Ah ****.

At least the PS1 games will work. Really want to play Driver 2/Crash Bandicoot/Gran Turismo again.

    I have an 80gb PS3 and it won't play PS2 games, or the PS1 game I tried.

Easier to deal with a shop, nothing to do with warranty. SOGA will cover you much better than the 1 yr warranty.

Actually only the 60GB could play PS2 games. bit ridiculous really but i spent a week looking for a compatible one before i bought the 60GB one

Basically if theres a fault you can bring it back to the retailer for repair/replace/refund under SOGA 1980. Its buried in there somewhere but its reasonable to expect the ps3 to last longer than 1 yr [durability].
