    Folks,
This may have been explained somewhere else already. Apologies if it has. Quesion is - if I am briniging in a 2008 1.9 diesel Alfa 159 from UK, vrt is charged at 36% but if I bring in an Avensis 2L diesel, VRT is at 16%. Anyone know the reasoning for this bullsh1t?
Is it to do with emissions of this car (surely cant be that bad) or is it that the VRT dont have a listing for this vehicles emissions on their DB and it defaults to the default highest % :( or am I missing something obvious here..
    Cheers

What are the CO2 emissions of the Alfa?

Certainly sounds like there defaulting to the highest, no way its that high

AFAIK, in this case you've to "provide" them with evidence to show them what the emissions really are.

Yes it's the emmisions.Either the Alfa Engine emits a good bit more co2 than the Toyota or they dont have the data (which I doubt cos it's on the V5 and being a recent car should be readily available).

Have you calculated that from the Revenue website OP???

Is it the lower power diesel op? In this case it wshould be the same 16% rate as the avensis

I think the Alfa emssions are 157. Not sure on the emissions of the Avensis, that was just an example I took..
    20% seems a huge difference..
    Thx

Its the 150bhp version then? Emissions are 157g in that case then.
    Rate should be 24%

Sounds like they dont have that model in their system yet. Just check the emissions that are on the registration certificate and cross check against the VRT bands, and you should be able to see what percentage VRT you'll be charged at. Take the open market selling value as detailed on the revenue calculator and apply the percentage to see what your VRT will be. I think the Alfa is 157 g/km for the saloon 159 g/km for the Sportwagon which would leave it in the 24% bracket

Are you sure its the exact model you are looking at ? Some models aren't on the list as noone has imported them before. If that is that case then you have to go to the vrt with your car and they work it out based on the maunfacturers Co2 emissions.

If your alfa emissions are indeed 157 - thats band D and should be at 24%.

Bascially you need to pin down exactly what your emissions are.
Then you need to determine if they have a listing for your exact model.
If not then you need to bring the car to them and go through the process of generating a new statistical code.

Apologies guys - its a rare 147 diesel, the 1.9JTD LUSSO 120BHP version, not the 159 model so I guess this is the case - they havent got it listed.....I must check to see what the exact emissions are. Thanks alot

VRT will go by whatever emissions number is on the V5 document. Check with the seller to make sure, or do a check on cartell.ie (sometimes the freebie check tells emissions).
