This has been mooted for a long time, since soon after Citylink started their non-stop service and it became clear BE was not going to get a licence for one.

From Tuesday, 15 February 2011, Galway-based transport provider, Gobus.ie, will operate its non-stop service between Dublin and Galway in association with Bus Éireann, the country’s leading public transport network manager. This new association will bring increased benefits to both Gobus.ie and Bus Éireann customers by providing them with a greater choice of services between Galway-Dublin City-Dublin Airport.

The integration of services by both companies means that Gobus.ie passengers now have access to Bus Éireann’s extensive Expressway network and Bus Éireann can offer its customers the choice of 14 daily non-stop direct return services between Galway and Dublin.

These direct services from Gobus.ie have an impressively swift journey time of 2hrs 30mins at a flat rate of just €10.00 each way. The award-winning Volvo fleet of Gobus.ie coaches have excellent passenger safety and comfort features including toilet facilities, free WI-FI, a climate control ventilation system, great legroom, 3-point safety belts, adjustable head and foot rests, and low interior noise.

Gobus.ie will continue to operate its non-stop, Galway-Dublin return services from the contemporary and comfortable Sean Duggan Coach Station on Fairgreen Road in Galway City and its Dublin Airport departures will also continue to operate from the Airport’s coach park. Bus Éireann will continue to operate its inter-city services between Galway and Dublin – Route 20 multi-stop, and X20 limited stop, from Galway Bus Station, Dublin Airport and Busaras.

Customers can guarantee their seat by purchasing their ticket in advance for the non-stop direct Dublin-Galway service from Gobus.ie.

“We are delighted to be working in association with Bus Éireann on our direct Dublin - Galway return service” said Jim Burke, Managing Director of Gobus.ie. “Over the past 12 months our non-stop service has proved hugely popular with locals and tourists alike, nonetheless, we are determined to continuously adapt and refocus our business to ensure that we constantly meet the needs of our customers and make our service better for them. Through this association with Bus Éireann we are able to offer our customers forward travelling options throughout the country. Similarly, Bus Éireann will be in a position to offer customers greater variety with the option of a non-stop service,” added Jim.

“As Ireland’s leading pubic transport network manager, Bus Éireann is pleased to be working with a quality Irish coach operator in Gobus.ie to ensure people have the opportunity to support an excellent indigenous coach service when travelling non-stop between Dublin and Galway,” said Brian Connolly Regional Manager, Bus Éireann.

Maybe Citylink should fire back by interlining with IE?

Anyone know what's going on here? How is this going to work in practice? Just went on Bus Eireann's website to check the Galway->Dublin timetable but it still gives me the old X20/20 routes.

I think that, at the moment, the only change is that they have links on each other's websites.

They're still running their own timetables, and their own ticketing. Tickets can't be used on the other companies services - based on the response to a specific question that I put to their PR person yesterday.

What may be significant is that it's showing some BE willingness to work co-operatively with other companies.

The Dublin-Donegal route has been operated jointly with McGeehan coaches for several years now, prior to that McGeehan ran a competing licenced service on the route. Some of the local services in West Donegal are also jointly operated.

So basically from a customer POV there is no difference, just a livery change on the bus.

    This too shall pass.

    any update on this?
i.e. the bus eireann logo is on the gobus site but that seems to be the limit of the cooperation - or am i missing something?

The plan was that GoBus was to use BE stops at the airport'
But DAA want to charge them for it. So the deal might fall through yet.

Would BE letting Go Bus use Bus Aras to depart from Dublin be on the cards?
That could be an added hit for people with luggage/waiting for the services.

It is good to see that they are co-operating in such a way.
