I'm doing a bit of research before I make the move, but I want to know if there was a gaming tournament XBOX and Playstation near you would you compete.

I'm thinking of running a couple of tournaments in the next couple of months.

Formats I'm thinking of going with would be
    Game ->Black Ops
    • Teams of 4(Domination or Team Deathmatch)
    • Free for all
Run in a tournament style with Gamebattle rules
Entry for a team would be €25 and single player FFA would be €10

There would be a cash prize for each winners depending on numbers that turn up and expenses. At the moment its just on the paper stage, starting to look for finance but I want to know do you think it would be popular and would you attend.

    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Tough to say as most people here are scattered all over the shop.

I for one would take part but only if in Dublin or surrounding counties.

If there was one in I would enter, esp if it was local. Where would you have it though? Do Gamesnash do something similar?

At the moment it's looking more like a xbox tournament purely because of the cost of consoles and the availability of second hand models. I'm working on a business plan at the moment and have been in contact with Microsoft and Sony but it's only in the introduction stage and I have to convinvce people that it would actually be popular.

Can you do lan events with the xbox tho ? I thought the reason the PS3 was the main console for the lan events in MLG was because of its lan features or something... maybe that was just with MW2.

There has been 360 lan events since 2006.

Usually we bring our own 360's and tv's

What are your figures like? Guesstimate equipment would be around €5000, so add whatever the venue would cost to that. So say 20 teams enter at €25 a group that would be €500 prizes say of €200 making a profit of €300. Not a lot and you'd have to run it 16 times just to cover the equipment cost. I suppose you could contact game places and they might sponsor it.

If you knew people with xboxs or PS3s you could get them to lend them to you or do places still rent these things? You were able to rent consoles from Xtravision.

I'd have to work on a bigger scale that that, Initially 2 stations with 16 monitors,

One station with split screen so 2 team matches at once (8 monitors and 8 consoles) and the other station with 8 monitors and consoles for the free for all games.

Initially aiming for up to 32 teams in the beginning. Morning is to qualify for the knock out stages in the afternoon. If your knocked out in the morning you can re-enter.

Free for all players, qualify in the morning for the knockout stages in the after noon. Hoping 75% of team players would play FFA.

But even at that it's not sustainable, it would need to be twice that size, but then twice the amount of equipment and factor in venue costs, insurance, tax and wages. There's a lot of things involved including getting parental consent.

A large number of tournaments held in regional area's each with the winners and runner up invited to the final to be held in a Dublin venue.

Only problem is if no one turns up I'm fecked.:o
