Hi - my best friend is getting married later this year and we are just starting to look for suit hire - we need about 8 so hoping to get a good deal somewhere. I live in Dublin and if possible would prefer somewhere southside or wicklow direction. If anyone can let me know where they went for a good deal I would love to know. Thanks a mil.

They are a little pricey but Aston Formal wear in town are excellent, we got ours from there.

Chaplins in Dundrum had some good deals when I was looking.

Myself and my fiance are getting married this year and getting suits from Blacktie. We need 9 of them. We put a €20 deposit down with them at a wedding fair in the RDS and are getting the suits for €70 each.

You could check out Bond Bros in goatstown D14, found suits & service v.good. My brother is using them for his wedding this summer and they are doing a 20% off open day on saturday feb 26th at their store- happy hunting

i hope you dont have the same experience of many people I know that used them have had.

Dirty suits being recieved is not an uncommon complaint Ive heard from friends who used them. One also said they went on the day and were given different sizes than those measured for and had to go to 3 different Blacktie shops to get the rights sizes in the end.

Unfortunately that seems to be common. They have a really awful reputation.

Wow, you are spending €630 hiring suits for a day? No wonder yer man who owns black tie drives around in a new bentley!

I recommend avoiding Blacktie like the plague. The grooms suit dropped a turned up trouser leg midway through the day, his best man looked like a sack of spuds. They hadn't the size I ordered when I went to pick up my own suit and ... insisting the larger size available "suits you sir" when it plainly didn't.

And didn't ever manage to organize a refund of my deposit money despite a number of phone calls.

How on earth they stay in business...

The per suit cost there is on the cheaper side for wedding suits. It all depends on how many you are dressing.

Try Tangos Dress hire in Temple Bar. My best mate got his suits there, they were really reasonable and know their stuff. They even were able to make up cravats to match the bridemaids dresses perfectly for the groomsmen, and their tailoring was really excellent.

This place was recommended to me by a guy in work:

    http://abmenswear.ie/index.php

I myself am going up north as a friend of mine got married in Belfast last year and I liked the suits he got, he highly recommended where he got them (some place in lisburn).

I have heard nothing but bad things about black tie also - sounds like they really have a deserved bad rep.....

I have no idea if these are morning dress or the, apparently more popular dinner jackets.

If the latter, M & S could probably do a new DJ & trousers for around the same money.

If the former, I bought my own morning dress about 20 years ago and, although wear it infrequently, it has paid for itself many times over since then over the cost of hiring for the times I have worn it.

I don't understand why someone wants to pat over €600 to hire clothes for a wedding, as it seems excessive and a lot of money for a few hours wear.

Maybe the bride and groom are very rich and just won't miss the money?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Well one things for sure you have made me want to stay clear of Black Tie! Think we will check out Chaplins and Bond Bros first coz they are both quite close to where we live. 20% off at Bond Bros sounds good - do you know what sort of price they are there to start with at Bond Bros?

Its got nothing to do with being "rich", people (in my experience) spend what they can afford. In my case, the only time my husband wears a suit is to a wedding. He wanted a good quality morning suit for the wedding day but we didn't want the cost of paying to buy a good quality one. Hence renting worked out cheaper. If we had bought (good quality) suits of the type we wanted for everyone then it would have cost a hell of a lot more than 600 euro.

I think most people work out the most cos effective solution for them.

Got mine (oct 2010) with Bond Bros.
5 for 600 and was able to collect them over a week before the wedding with the final try on, which was great to get everyone sorted knowning everyone had their suits early that fitted. Once less thing to worry about in the lead up to the day.

I suppose that depends on the definition of "rich". Certainly, someone who can afford to pay over €600 to hire clothes to wear for a few hours comes over as rich to me. It's their money to spend as they wish, and I hope they have a blissfully wonderful day.

Went to Astons, Tangos, Bond Bros, Black Tie, John Laurence and 2 others at the weekend - phew!!
Anyway just to report back (and thanks a mil for the feedback). We have decided to go with Bond Bros in Goatstown and are heading back into them this Saturday 26th as they are doing a special open day with 20% off all bookings so its going to be a big saving as we need so many. They were really helpful so at least thats one more thing sorted!

How much did they quote you per suit with the 20% off?

We were quoted €100 per suit at Bond Bros - that included the suit, waistcoat, shirt, cravat and cufflinks. I am delighted and they were really helpful too I have to say :):)

Just to let you know we went with Bond Bros in Goatstown - got all 8 suits with waistcoats, cufflinks, cravats and shirts for €800. I am delighted. I would highly recommend them. The guy we dealt with was Brendan and he was great.

I just order my suits in AB Menswear in Swords. Got 6 3 piece suits, cufflinks, tie, handkerchief, and new shirt for €600.00.

Dealt with Jimmy, he was very helpful and knew his stuff. I would highly recommend them.

Hmm, we need to hire suits in Dublin for our wedding but all the groomsmen and the groom are in NZ so we'll only be able to go in with sizes the week before the wedding. I was going to go to Black Tie but I think we'll give them a miss after reading the thread.

I'm going to be home in Dublin soon to do some wedding research (amongst other things). I wonder if I got sizes from the groomsmen could we reserve suits we like somewhere and then just go in the week before to confirm the sizes. It's really awkward actually!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 sauvignon

    Hi Watna

I just cut and paste this from Bond Bros facebook page for you coz it might be worth giving them a shout - they are in Goatstown and we used them a few weeks ago.

"Free Groom Wedding suit. Dont forget our march promotion has just over a week more to run. Book 5 or more suit for the wedding party and get free suit, waistcoat, cravat, shirt, cufflinks;)"

The guy we dealt with was Brendan and his email is info@bondbros.ie
    Hope that helps!:)

We had a similar problem. Aston formal wear have a form on their website where people abroad can submit their measurements. They just get fitted when the suits are being collected the week of the wedding. Aston recommend that people go into a tailor wherever they are and get properly measured rather than doing it themselves. Thats what our guys did, i think the tailor charged 5 or 10 euro for it.

Thanks - you've both been so helpful! That's what my OH wants to do, get measured by a tailor and then order them to be fitted the week before. I wasn't sure if it was possible but sounds like it'll work really well.

I'll check out those two places.

I would suggest to pop into a local friendly suit hire co in NZ and get them to measure up. They should do it for free. I know it common practise amongst irish and uk companies. Most of them do it such Moss Bros in uk, Bond Bros & CT2 here in dublin. Email them the details and they will get the suits organised in time for you.

I'm beginning to see a theme here! My OH likes the look of them, only problem is he might not be able to make it back to Dublin with me before the wedding (I'm planning to go back in a few months time to do some wedding stuff). The Aston website only has pictures of wedding morning suits and he wants a normal day suit (which they do have but there's no pictures). I'd have to go in and have a look around and email him pictures or something so we can book in the ones we want.

Has anyone any experience of tangos formal wear in temple bar?

It's getting close to the time I need to start looking for my suits, I like the look of some of the suits on their site and was wondering does anyone have feedback on them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 Kiri

I've been to a "few" suit hire places (ct2, Youngs , Black Tie) and without any doubt Dublin Dress Hire in Lucan (jusy off M50 in Lucan beside Topaz Fuels) were miles ahead of the competition . I've no family or association with this premises but would recommend a chat with Greg for "In Real World Prices". 100%

Hi there, yeah had to go around looking at wedding suits last month check around the usual places i.e. black tie , aston, CT2 but I found that in the end tango's in temple bar were the best bet! Marks the owner and couldn't have been nicer really good deal and made our ties from fabric for free!

Pretty impressive range and checked all their stuff online just google them. To say the least Aston were probably the second best with black tie coming a deserving last in my opinion!

    Hope this helps someone !

I see from a few replies to this thread that a few people have recommended Dublin Formal Wear. Well I was looking on weddings online and found this link about them. Seems they've opened a new shop in Tallaght too and have some offers on at the moment!
