iPad / Bluetooth / phone system

    Greetings,
The company I'm currently working for asked me to investigate if it's possible to configure the following scenario: they would like their receptionist to have an iPad, she would use this to look up internal numbers on an intranet. She will also have a portable headset connected to the in house phone system (not VOIP). What they would like to be able to do is when the receptionist locates a extension number on the iPad, she could tap it so the phone then dials the number?
Do any of you know if this is possible yet?
I have had a look on the net but all I discovered is that iPads don't seem to be compatible with bluetooth headsets.
    Any and all help appreciated.
