Just wondering if my car will be allowed do the NCT with a pushbutton start its a 96 polo with 150k on the clock and running like clockwork otherwise. I basically bypassed the ignition switch as it was fecked and wired the positive directly to a new starter motor i got at the scrapyard (solenoid gone in old one) via a pushbutton switch. Only other option was to remove the ignition barrel which would be messy and wouldn't be likely to get a good ignition barrel in the scrapyard either. Any ideas? its a tidy job but I'm afraid they will just tell me to take a hike.

Anyone have any experience of this?
    Cheers
    MC

Had to do the same a while back but never had to put it through NCT after.
Don't see why it would fail if it's tidy and it works.
Look up the NCT manual on the site, lists all the things checked.

My Integra passed the NCT with a push button start from a s2000

thanks for replies - looks like it should pass once it is going through a fuse, the right gauge wiring is used and that it is shielded appropriately in the engine bay as well as that the NCT manual mentions that it must not impair with the drivers ability to drive the vehicle as well as no loose wires... will give it a go anyway
    Cheers

My switch only bridged the contacts of the starter circuit bit of the original ignition barrel (the contacts for the starter circuit were goosed) - so I had only a short bit of wiring within the steering column cover. Used original wiring other wise - maybe this would work for you too, if the NCT boys pick holes in what you've done?
Altho if it's working give it a lash as is, why bring more work on yourself...
