    Its actually good looking imo.

I hope I am wrong but going by previous Skoda designs I'd doubt the production version will look like that. VAG will probably make sure it is toned down so it doesn't question the existance of the Golf and A3. It will be interesting to see how well they deal with 270bhp through the front wheels though.

Great to see a company put out a high power petrol version rather than the usual hippy "green" versions that every manufacturer seems to be concentrating on lately.

Looks excellent from the the back, looks typically Skoda from the front.

270bhp through the front wheels should be no problem if modern technologies are used.

No idea but this Mk1 has hit the 200k Mark with no issues

Looks outdated already to me, very similar to an early last decade Leon.

Not a bad looking car but that bonnet ridge is just gank, where it hits the grille just looks WRONG imo.

These are fair enough as just something to imagine but remember here these are just some renderings someone has done some day, and they are just slightly tweaked stock pictures of the current octavia. They really dont have any basis in reality.

The next octavia is a tricky one alright though, will it have to wait until at least the next golf is launched? If so, it would be 2013 at the earliest. If it is, it gives the current car a near 9 year lifespan which is really pushing it IMHO. I know skoda are concentrating on developing markets at the moment to an extent, but they cant forget about the European market. I, for one would be vey put off buying an octavia at the moment because of its age, whatever about 2012

@Zonda - The Fabia pre-dated the Polo with a new platform by a year and a half or something... so you never know.
Also Skoda are planning on a brand re-image, which may well modify the badge and ditch the rectangle grille... hopefully!!
Should we however dig out all the posts where the Skoda fanboys said that any more power than their VRS is just a waste and can't be used? :D

    Still looks like Ned Flanders

Maybe you should dig them out and check to see if they did in fact say "Can't be used"
    OR
    "Not really needed"

That would be the modern technology of limiting torque through the first 3 gears? :P

The only way to really use this power would be with a mechanical (meaning not Electronic brake diff) LSD on the front which VAG wont do as they havent put one on their premium models in years.

PS: If they put this through AWD, then Id be interested.

I wouldn't read anything into that rendering. Not even Skoda would launch such a dated heap in 2013.

But the current Fabia which was launched in 2007 still uses the previous generation Fabia/Polo platform whereas the new Polo launched in 2009 uses a totally new platform. So no consistancy there.

270 bhp! in A VRS!

wait till the 2015 model comes out- Flux capacitators will be standerd! :D

I know, kind of my point, you never know what they'll do.

A couple of quotes from members on the Briskoda forum.
Makes me wonder should I join the Bangernomics gang for 12 months and wait for the mk3 vrs
The Octavia 3 will be presented before the end of this year and go on sale early next year. Josef Kaban, the chief designer said at a press gathering in CZ this week:

"The new Octavia is finished, everything is ready. Now, it is in demanding testing. Octavia looks very sporty. I think you'll like it," he adds. "Every time I see it, I'm happy," he says with a smile.
According to the dealer new model diary, the Octavia Hatch is due in March, then April for the estate and the VRS in June.

Id love to be surprised though!

You can be certain that will not be the finished product.
Even so I would assume the vRS will be different again

Surely it has to be awd at least for 270hp.
Vectra opc with 280hp is a total waste of space on the road, because of fwd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

It would have to have a trick dif for that. There's a limit to how much power front wheels can handle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,664 ✭✭✭✭vectra

I would not be going after the petrol one anyhow
It would be the diesel unit for me.. Supposed to be around 183bhp this time I think.

It looks like Skoda will be busy in the next couple of years.

The Citigo launches in the coming months.
Then there is the "Vision L" & "Vision D", the "Rapide", a Toureg SUV, a new Yeti & the new Octavia.

Madness if they don't throw the awd system from the Golf R into it along with the engine.

I know with modern tech FWD can manage but why manage when you can have something better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,755 ✭✭✭ianobrien

But if they fit an AWD system, won't that rob some valuble boot space for the rear diff?

Like the Octavia is already short boot space, and then they go and take some for the rear diff. The boot is so small that you struggle to fit a small planet in there at the moment....

    Ah it will be grand.
The Mk3 will be a bigger car :pac:

Jesus I just wish Skoda and VAG in general would stop with all these experimental and 'out there' radical new designs!

What's wrong with just keeping things the same from year to year?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

The Leon Cupra R doesn't. I would be surprised if it was that powerful. The Golf R is a halo model so having the cheaper Skoda rivalling that would not fit in I would assume.

The Golf R has the same set up as the S3 and cupra R so halo model doesn't really cut it.The old VRs had the same power output as the new GTI (at the time).

    270 bhp or not it's still a skoda* :D

*great engine, good internal technology but dressed in your grannies clothes. :D
