the late late show competitions

Just wondering do you ever enter the late late show phone in competitions or have you ever being the lucky winner. I enter every week and am very unlucky. Thousands must enter....If you are one of the lucky winners did you phone or text. we were just saying earlier that they probably never phone a mobile phone.
I often wonder if someone makes the decision who to phone what is to stop them phoning a friend.......

I used to enter but then copped on.
They must make a tidy sum each week with tons of viewers entering the competition enabling Tubs to casually say last week that he's adding a €10,000 to prize of a car.
I guess they have to pay his wages somehow. :pac:

I'm old enough to remember when Gay used hold competitions entered via postcard and he had a huge container in the studio filled to the brim with postcards.
It was a more transparent system but obviously less profitable for the Late Late.

The computer picks a name at random but always manages to pick an irish typical name. nora kelly. Mary murphy, John Burke. Never a Juan Pablo.........Has to be a fix. same in the daily afternoon show 1000 euro prizemoney daily, same phone number too.

great to hear that. Did Tubs want his car back......or was it gaybo now he has the motorbike...Nice to hear of genuine people winning. Maybe I am just being begrudging cos its never me...

I'd imagine these competitions are entered by a good 10% of the viewers so being premium rate texts would pull in a good €50,000 a night for RTÉ and the text provider. No way to find out exactly how much as RTÉ don't reveal the breakdown of money is makes from commercial ventures.

the comps are no fix thats for sure, my cousin won $10k and a luxury holiday to the US for 2. She was in contact with the travel company on the monday morning and they sorted out dates etc.....

What time did she ring at?
Does she have an irish name?
How many times did she ring?
