Cavity closers & full fill insulation

    Are cavity closers as relevant/necessary when having a full fill cavity?

    How does one prevent thermal bridging across the cavity closer at the wall plate?

    I have done a lot of Googling on this but can't find an answer to my specific questions.

    Please use small words, my brain is fried at this point :)

    when you refer to cavity closers, are you talking about block closers, proprietory insulated closers.....or some other material?

    Note to self. Don't try to read Acceptable Construction Details Part L Building Regulations 2008- Cavity Wall Insulation at 1am. I read it again this morning & understood it this time. Also don't post on here after 11pm!

    birds, can i ask you if youre a construction professional? because trying to understand Part L for a layperson would be like me trying to change the head gasket in a car engine.

    what is your wall construction? have you anyone providing certification on compliance with building regulations?

    Hi not in the the game but am a self builder, I am subject to complete information overload at the minute, I have a 200mm cavity that I am filling after the build, putting the in PC floors next week so I am chasing all about how to install the airtight membrame for that and then I will be faced in how to close the cavity as it is a dormer I am building. That is just around the corner so any help and advice most appreciated, as I am worried about thermal bridging at this point, but I am also going to use extanding foam in the roof section so am i worrying about nothing here?

    we cant give out structural advice here, so i think you should get that junction "detailed up".
    Its important to understand that the acceptable details simply look at junctions from a thermal bridge and air tightness point of view and NOT structurally. It may be possible to use a material such as slate, or fibreboard etc but you need to get confirmation from a structural engineer. Its possible, and practical, to support the roof members on the precast flooring so you will have your triangulation there, thus you only need to worry about vertical downward forces.

    Fully agree, I am not looking for structural advice on this as the engineer and block layer are detailling all this, what I am looking for is more best practice from a thermal bridging and airtightness prospective. Thanks
