So, what about Trailers bugs you the most?

Last few days I've noticed people stating things about certain trailers, like:

"Oh god, that trailer is just one big spoiler!" or "They make the movie look more eventful than it ctually is!" etc

The two above in question was "Funny People" & "True Grit" but these are not the only movies out there that have misleading or revealing trailers, or just trailers in general that make a movie look worse than it is or irritate the audience/discourage potential viewers, such as great movies having trailers that make it look horrendous (I'm sure people could name some of those).

I know anytime I see a movie with my Father he'll often complain how Trailers always seem to try and make every movie out to be an action-fest, or "Only show you the good bits", others may as well just compact the whole 1.5hr movie into a 3min short seeing as some just plain tell you the ending or huge plot spoilers, such as "The Roomate" where someone had claimed the Trailer pretty much gave a scene of the actual movies ending

So, what type of trailer bugs you? Just in general maybe, or trailers for movies where you feel they are a huge injustice to the actual movie you love.

Watched the trailer of "I Spit on your Grave" on IMDB yesterday. Literally no need to watch the film now. Also, "the Disappearance of Alice Creed" - watched that trailer too and it gives away two major plot twists. Could not believe it.

Bottom Line: No more IMDB trailers for WHIP IT! :)

The trailer for "The Back up Plan". Just the whole pretense for the film is so ridiculous, "Most women find the man of their dreams and get pregnant but Jennifer Lopez is doing it the other way round, Derp a derp a derp a derp! Tiddly Tum"!!!!

Not to mention a group of retarted cinema goers who thought the trailer was the funniest thing ever. It's movies like this that makes me realise that Hollywood should be beaten half to death with the sh*t it creates.

What's next, "Rob Schneider was a woman, then he was an animal and now he's a stapler!" It's a rip roaring rolling coaster of a ride! Rated pg-13.
    Arghhhh!

I felt very misled by the trailer for Catfish. I really enjoyed the film, but it was very different to what I expected thanks to the trailer which makes it out to be a horror/thriller, especially with the review quote which says the film is the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never directed...

The trailer for "The Dilemma" makes it out to be a typical Vince Vaughn/Kevin James non stop laugh a minute type film when in reality its a drama with a couple of funny bits in it.

Still enjoyed it, but bit of a disappointment when you expect a pure comedy.

Same with "Cyrus", trailer made it look like an absolute blast, John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill comedy film, yet again it was a drama with very sporadic moments of funny, yet this one I didn't really enjoy.

Funny that - Me and the OH decided to hit the cinema this Wednesday and it was a toss-up between True Grit & The Dilemma - I said we'd head to the Dilemma as, knowing True Grit is meant to be a solid film, I didn't think she'd appreciate that over going to see a 'Comedy'.

So now someone is saying the Dilemma isn't a comedy but a Drama with some funny moments in it, you'd assume it was a comedy from the Trailer

    Bah!

Yeah I'd say 90% of the films comedy moments are in the trailer. It's not that its bad, its just extremely misleading.

I laughed at the trailer for a time traveller's wife but then i saw the movie and thought it was actually very good.

Not the trailer,, but the film title of The Asassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford. Doesen't take a genius to figure out what that's about.

My biggest gripe with them is when they have that deep voice saying "THIS YEAR......BE PREPARED/GET READY etc."

Anyway, some trailers can be really good, just give you a glimpse of what the movie is like. "The Social Network" comes to mind as a recent one. But most of them lately just seem to condense the movie into 3 mins, so there's no point in actually seeing the full movie.

I avoid trailers as much as i can becasue if this, i feel i enjoy a movie more if i have no idea what its about. Managed to do it with Inception and Shutter Island and i thoroughly enjoyed them.

Have you seen the trailer for "Never Let Me Go"? I haven't seen the movie but the trailer is about 4ish minutes long and plays like a highlight reel, effectively telling the entire story.

Havent seen that one. I cant understand why they do it. Its like they're trying to prove that it has a good storyline.

I saw a trailer for the latest Twi****e one last night, its coming to box office or something, anyway from the trailer i could probably write the entire screenplay for the thing

Obviously, it's based on a novel, so they can "defend" themselves by saying people should/could know the story already, but I do agree that the Never Let Me Go trailer plays like a condensed version of the film.
The UK/Irish trailer for 127 Hours could be very misleading to anyone who'd been living under a rock (pun intended) and had no idea what the film was about, as it basically used footage culled exclusively from the first ten or fifteen minutes. It just played like an adrenaline-junkie energy drink commercial. I saw a trailer for it on a Region One DVD (presumably the US theatrical one) which was much more thoughtful and effective.
Mind you, those old Hollywood trailers can be ridiculously bad. The one for The Apartment features the very last dialogue exchange from the film!

Not a movie but the trailer that's been on recently for Boardwalk Empire is kind of misleading, it makes it out to be some all action gangster series when it's not really like that at all.

Solaris - with George Clooney and Natascha McElhone, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Good lord, I dashed out so fast to get my paws on that DVD when I saw the trailer. It made it look AMAZING.

    It isn't.

Saw the trailer for it a couple of weeks ago in the cinema and I know the whole damn plot thanks to it, there is literally no need to watch the movie now and I was really looking foreward to it too

I'm glad i hadnt seen the full trailer for The Town before watching the movie, it ruins the premise that
Affleck falls for the girl he takes hostage in the opening bank raid

A lot of trailers ruin movies these days, I prefer teasers, the one for Super 8 is a good example, all we see is a trainwreck, small town, kids, some othreworldy goings on and the army, all very Spielbergian.

Anyone miss when they used to show footage shot that wasnt in the actual film? I love the trailer for Face/Off where Travolta is telling us about Castor Troy and then the camera rotates around and he turns into him, really well done.

The trailer for District 9, without the prawns, made it look like it was going to be a gritty documentary on life in a South African slum.

The trailer for What Lies Beneath.

Completely gave away the 'twist' in the movie, so made the twist, when it happens, a complete anti-climax and the movie very much a let down.

Not a very well thought out movie anyway though.

They also did that for the trailer of Hulk, directed by Ang Lee - it showed footage that wasn't in the movie itself if I remember right?

I always thought the trailer for “In Bruges” made the film look ridiculous – like some zany knockabout comedy.
Actual film is much darker (and better) than the trailer suggests.

A lot of trailers end up doing that. It's because they've often cut it before the final cut of the movie is finished.

The trailer for Ransom gave away the Mel Gibson turning the ransom back around on the kidnappers twist - very unneccessary, it would have been a great moment if you didn't know it was coming.

The trailer for East is East made it out to be a light comedy, it had some very dark themes running through it.

Predators and the millions of Predator sights on Adrian Brody. That was the money shot Rodrigo intentionally put in to get people talking about the movie, cheap tactic that played people for fools.

I hate those "Derp-dee-derp" trailers with that horrible vinyl player "Derpidy Derp, but first............*EEEeeeeeeeeerrrrrriiiiiiip*...........derp derp derp.................*cue "Walking on Sunshine" song*". All wrapped up with that stupid voice-over from a guy who sounds like he'd piss himself laughing at a crap Knock, Knock joke.

God yeah, thats bad trailer making 101, having a song do the "record being stopped suddenly" sound as a bad joke plays out to a longer bad joke.

also any trailer that is advertising an Epic/Scary/Spoof movie type deal.

"from the talentless twats who think dick jokes are funny and Paris Hilton gags will be current in 5 years time, starring Stifler's Mom and that black midget who will appear in just about anything.... get ready...for Derpy Derp Derp Movie!"

cue endless ghetto humour jokes about breakdancing midgets, white people using black slang and "gangsta" jokes, with a Li' Wayne joke thrown in for good measure. Made only to appeal to stupid people and scumbags apparently, you'll always get a "Dat looks daaaaycent sham!" in a cinema if one of these movie abortions gets a trailer before a movie.

Their was a movie out last year called Just Wright with Queen Latifah as the main character. I didn’t see it but I know exactly what the movie was about just from the trailer. Woman meets basketball player, becomes him physical trainer, falls for him, he meets her prettier sister, falls for her instead. Goes out with said sister, realises she pretty but not nice, see's physical trainer in new light....falls for trainer and they all lived happily ever after.
I got all this from the trailer alone, that’s how detailed it was. I googled a full summary of the movie and that was it!

The teaser trailers were deliberately misleading in this way though - they did it for a purpose as opposed to try and trick you into the cinema.

People who go to see muck like this need everything spelled out for them. They don't like surprises or using their brains.

Also annoys me when trailers take time to make some completely irrelevant point..

"From the producer of.........(insert somewhat similar genre film here)...."

"From the same guys who brought you.......(insert somewhat similar genre film here)...."

Really??? That means shag all to me. It might be the same producer, but its not the same actors, directors, other production staff, screenplay writers etc etc.....

    It means NOTHING!!!!

    Good examples:

"From the director of The Dark Knight"

"From the director of Alien, Gladiator and Blade Runner"

"From the director of There Will Be Blood"

    Bad examples:

"From the team who brought you Little Man"

"From the 2nd assistant director on the set of 3 Ninjas"

    "Directed by Paul WS Anderson"

    :pac:
