What are my chances of getting a job?

Ok jobs aren't easy to get these days, but on a scale of 1-10, how good are my chances of getting a job? I'd probably say 0, am I right?

I have a diploma in PR and am skilled in Microsoft Office 2007, I have worked before in sales and retail but never in an office.

I ask this question as I just need a very straight forward answer:)

Any of us could say 0, or 1 or 2 or 7, but it would only be a guess based on observations and personal experience, which may not relate to you at all. We can have no idea of what you are, or have been, prepared to do to find a job. Are you just starting or have you exhausted all possibilities?

With qualifications in PR and sales you should know what is involved in selling yourself! Asking here seems like a bit of a negative approach - are you going to emigrate (or not) on the basis of opinions expressed here?

It is true that work prospects here are very poor. If you have done everything possible to get a job, then you have to decide yourself whether emigration, or the dole and keep looking, is the better option. Either way, good luck with what you decide to do :).

No, the reason I am asking here is just to compare to other jobseekers and see what other peoples experiences are, I know how to sell myself no problem, but just wondering what the chances are for someone with the qualifications but without the necassary work experience, as everywhere I've looked for work want people WITH work experience, it was just a question in general really.

Well with that attitude you'd be right :D

    +1 because you worked before
+1 because you worked in sales
+1 because you have a dip
+1 because you have MS office

So i reckon your chances of getting a job are 4/10 ;)

It's all about getting a foot in the door of a job so don't worry about low pay or a really basic job. Once you get a job you become over twice as employable as an unemployed person.

I have over 5 years call centre experience and 4 years additional face-to-face customer service experience and haven't been able to find anything in 6 months. It's a tough market out there. I'd say, if you can speak a foreign language, you might have a leg up on the competition. That's what I've been finding, as of late.

If you knew how to sell yourself you would not be assuming you have no work experience! You do have work experience - its more about the discipline of doing a good job than the exact experience. While admittedly that could be a deciding factor in a close race, you should not be emphasising it.

If you are looking for a sales job you would not be likely to be working in an office. If you are looking for PR, well you need to be out there creating a persona for yourself and selling it like mad. PR is selling b...s...., shrinking violets are likely to get covered in a large cowpat.

You might get lucky. It always helps if you know somebody. Don't be fooled by the propaganda - this isn't a meritocracy. You have to spend most of your life climbing a greasy pole, and licking a lot of arse to get where you want to go. Pandering is the name of the game.

Thanks, the reason I started this thread is because I have seen so many "you need 3-4 years experience" blah blah blah, so it's just made me think there would be no point applying as my application would probably end up in the bin:( but no harm in trying, so thanks again.

I have 6 years experience and in nearly 2 and a half months have been called for 2 interviews.

    Good luck.

If you have the option of emigrating I would. Ireland's economic situation is going to get worse the way things are going. Or just stay on the dole and hope for the best.
