Can anyone recommend some nice routes ranging from 40km to 120km around the Lahinch area in Clare. Heading there with the family next week and would like to get some early morning spins in.

Either north or south along the coast servers up fairly spectacular stuff. Have a look at a map..

Here's an 85km loop I've done a couple of times. Takes in the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, Black Head, Ballyvaughan, Corkscrew Hill, Lisdoonvarna, and the Cliffs of Moher again from the opposite side. Lovely scenery. Just do it!

Pretty much the same route as Cantalach but when I did this last week I went from Listoonvarna back to Doolin Village so adding another 9.5km and 121 meters climbing (by RwGPS calculations).
I mean I'm not saying I'm a tougher, more hardcore or dedicated cyclist, I'm just saying that's the route I chose...........;)

I think North Clare as good as West Cork for secenery and routes.

And if you've had enough of climbing by the time you get to Lisdoonvarna, yet another variation is to head back to Lahinch via Ennistimon.

Looks like there is plenty of climbing, looking forward to it.

+1 on Cantalach. Holidayed there last summer and did a few loops that direction. road surface mixed in places and some great descents. You'd want to be going up the corkscrew climb of course.

Would avoid the back road from Lahinch into Ennistimon some local caravan dwellers started pelting me with stones and spuds.

Were you wearing a jersey saying "I Hate Pavé"?

you highly recommend Cantalach route as well ....

If you want another one heading south though head to Spainish Point, Quilty, Kilkee to Loop Head Lighthouse. On a clear day from there you can see 40 miles into Kerry and another 40 up the Clare coast

Christ I'd love to be heading there some time soon

Great weeks cycling and i completed over 300kms. The road surface around Corkscrew Hill and heading into Lisdoonvarna (from Ballyvaughan direction) in places was some of the best road surfaces i have cycled on in Ireland. Corkscrew is not a difficult climb as such but the hairpin turns makes it look more daunting. I would highly recommend a weeks holiday cycling:rolleyes: in the area!!

I think I met you on the route from Kilcolgan-Kinvara on Thursday! We were just after leaving Galway and you had 90km done already! You were going well when we left you at Kinvara

It's a brilliant surface from Ballyvaughan to Lisdoonvarna - up until recently it was very tough because of the surface.
