    I am thinking of doing an Executive MBA this September and I am considering
    • DIT
    • Trinity
    • UCD/Smurfit
    • DCU

    It would be great to hear from people who are doing a MBA in Dublin or have completed the course.

    Ucd is the most respected in ireland. Trinity is the most respected outside ireland due to times rankings and mba.com

    so... Where do you see yourself in 5 years.

    UCD and Trinity are definitely the top two on the list. I'd love to say UCD as i'm an alumni but Trinity really have incredible lecturers at the moment and having spent time with some of them I was very impressed with their knowledge.

    UCD holds 3 accreditations for their exec. MBA (UK, EU and USA). Trinity only has one (UK).

    UCD have been running the part time course for years but Trinity are only running the executive for the first time this year.

    both have their ranking merits e.g. UCD has good FT ranking whereas Trinity's MBA is unranked by FT or ecominist but the Trinity business school has a high rank with (30TH IN Europe) with Eduniversal.

    Trinity's course seems to have an international recognition due to the history of the college.

    Have you considered any of the schools in the UK? The programs there are much more international than the Irish programs, and I found this really opened my eyes.

    Also, have you considered doing the program fulltime, rather than the exec? I considered doing an executive MBA, but am so happy that I did it fulltime. The main benefits that I got from the program did not take place in the lecture theater.

    Hanging out discussing ideas in the common room with really smart people, general networking, and getting to see some amazing guest lectures were the highlights of my MBA. If I had done the exec program I would have missed out on a lot of this.

    Also, why are you looking at an MBA? Is it for career progression within an organization? Are you looking to change companies, change industries etc?

    Hi Randomer. I am commited to doing the MBA in Ireland and nowhere else as my family, job and house is here. I am currently working so giving up my job is not an option, my salary is funding my MBA.

    I am doing the MBA for a number of reasons;
    - to gain a formal business qualification as I am working in business developement role for the last number of years, my background is science/technical
    - to learn
    - to network

    I've also been thinking about an MBA although it will have to wait for another 2-3 years. The UCD and Trinity options are probably the top two available in Ireland but just looking at the literature avaiable on both the UCD program seems to bit quite a bit ahead in terms of structure and content with Trinity trading on their reputation.

    Trinity trading on their reputation.

    Every MBA trades on the reputation of their lecturers. I definitely wouldn't say Trinity are behind in content. I have worked with two of last year's grads and they we're both massively impressive.

    Smurfit Business School is, by far, the best recognised business school in Ireland, both at home and abroad (USA), as mentioned by both accreditations and in ranking systems.

    University rankings however, Trinity & UCD would be on a par more or less in Ireland, abraod Trinity, as a university, has a much higher reputation, with an "Irish Oxford" appeal to it, and is reflected in any international university ranking system you'd care to look up.

    For MBA, no question I'd go for Smurfit, if it was for a bachelours and staying in Ireland, either college is great, for a bachelours and going abroad I'd go for Trinity.

    As for DCU & DIT, both good, but not same league as Trinity and UCD, but DCU as it is a recognised university, is better than DIT in esteem / reputation.

    @c1979,
    Get in touch with the MBA Admissions Manager at Smurfit (mba@ucd.ie) and have a chat - she can also put you i touch with current students and alumni with profile/questions similar to yours. Hope this helps...
