Basically my car was nicked from outside my house last Friday by some little scumbag. It was a Mazda 323 , 90d and only had 55k miles on the clock (genuinely wasn't used much). Anyway everyone at home is pissed off about it because its been in the family for years... had to have it scrapped.

Anyway, money is very tight for me now at the moment (the mazda wasn't worth much monetarily but it was a great run about and lately had been getting a lot more use). I need a replacement car keeping in mind I have bugger all money at the mo. I was thinking about a Merc e200 w124 series. I've heard from taxi lads that they are bullet proof reliable and go forever.

Has anyone any advice or opinions... about 1500 euro max (I know it's not a lot but thats my budget).

Pointless buying a Merc on a shoe string budget. What happens if it needs something expensive replaced? Will you be able to pay for it or will you be carless? A €1500 Merc could need attention sooner than later.

Starlet, you really cannot go wrong.

Failing that, the Skoda Felicia is a good bet :o

You might get a good one for €1200 ish but they are minimally 2.0 so tax is not cheap, they are not light on fuel and at 15 to 20 years old are bulletproof when maintained which won't be cheap.

As mentioned above, Corolla etc is the way to go.

not sure if he still has it, but worth a look and an offer.

Now they are pretty bloody bullet proof. And cheap as cheap cheap chips to run.
