I am a tourist in south america at the moment

I want to change my visa to a student visa

Whats the quickest way to get a garda clearance letter send by post?

I am planning to return to ireland in 2 months time but only for 2 weeks.

If i apply from south america, is there a chance that when i get back to ireland the letter still will not have arrived?

Does anyone have any experience of how long it takes to recieve the letter?

    What the longest time?

I was in a similar situation before and I managed to get mine into my hands in about three weeks.

I typed up a letter addressed to the Superintendent of my town's Garda Station saying I needed it urgently, signed it at the bottom, scanned it and e-mailed to my parent who left it to the station. You need to ask for a "Police Certificate".

If you're going to do the same thing, be sure to include your name as it appears on your birth cert, your date of birth, your place of birth, all your previous addresses in Ireland, and the name of the country you want the Police Cert for. The Gardai will want to see your birth cert too.

I think it took a week for mine to be sent to my Irish address, and two and more weeks for it to get to Asia by regular post. The Gardai actually sent two originals which would have been handy if one got lost in the post.

In my experience, letters and cards have come a few days faster than parcels when they've been sent to me from home. So having it sent as a single item might be something to consider. Good luck :)
