Dangerous Driving

OK, I need some advice on this subject...I was arrested for dangerous driving but later released with no charge!

The Garda informed me on leaving the station that "I would receive either a fixed penalty or a summons in the post, but I would receive a letter from them."

What can I expect, how can I receive a summons if I was not charged, what has been the experience of other members in this situation?

Charter was read in relation to legal advice?

Great, so you know you can't come here and get legal advice!?

Funny man...I'm not looking for legal advice, I thought that was obvious from the post!

I'm looking for similar situations that other members have experienced...thought from your reply I think I'd better simplify a bit more in the future!

The arrest was most likely to verify your details. A charge and a summons are just different ways to get you to court. A charge is done in custody and a summons is served afterwards.

If you were arrested and not charged it's probably because they're not sure if they'll proceed with a charge of dangerous driving, they will probably send a file to the DPP and see what he says so in that situation they release you and may or may not issue a summons later depending on what the DPP tells them to do.

Thank you K Mac and Coylemj for your replies...I'll expect a summons in the post.
