What if you had a provisional license 20 years ago, and want to learn to drive now?

My girlfriend had one or two (she can't remember exactly) provisional licences about 20 years ago, and took a few lessons, but never sat the test (this was in Mayo).

She's now living in Dublin and wants to learn to drive.

Would it be better to start from scratch again and not tell the authorities that she had a provisional licence 20 years ago (I presume they won't have computerised records going back that far so won't realise she had a provisional license before). So she would do the theory test, then apply for a first learner permit, in the normal way.

Or better to apply for a learner permit based on the one/two provisional licenses she had 20 years ago. Would this mean she would have to sit a driving test BEFORE she could get a new learner permit, even though she wouldn't have enough experience to even think of taking the test right now!

It is not a matter of choice, I am afraid. Because the provisional licences were so long ago, she must start from scratch with the theory test and first learner permit.

.......She might have difficulty answering section 13 and the 'declaration' in section 28!!!

As has been said, it will make no difference anyway as she'll be back to square one.
