    Hi guys,

The girlfriend and I are looking for a nice couples sun holiday destination. Somewhere nice, not tacky, nice restaurants, chilled out atmosphere etc.

A good example of what I want is some place like Santorini in Greece. Although I have been there with an ex so want something different! :D

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Lanzarote is quiet enough especially don the Old Town in puerto del carmen.
Almost sure of the weather as well.

...Somewhere nice, not tacky, nice restaurants, chilled out atmosphere etc....

Meloneras in Gran Canaria ticks all those boxes.

Very nice resort for a relaxed holiday. Good selection of restaurants & shops. It is quiet there & more of an older crowd (as in no groups of teens/early 20's), loads of couples. There isn't much in the way of nightlife but if you want bars etc.., you can always get a short taxi ride up the road to the busier parts.
Villa del Conde is where we stayed the last 2 years. Love it there. Also, stayed in Costa Meloneras. Which is nice too. It's the same owners. They have one other hotel in the resort called Baobab, which looks really good too but haven't stayed there.

Haven't been to Santorini, so can't compare but it's definitely my favourite place for a sun holiday.

The Amalfi Coast of Italy. Some areas can be a bit pricey but there are beautiful cliff side beaches and Mediterranean fishing villages. It would be a good spot for a couples holiday.

If you wanted to try another Greek Island I would suggest Naxo's (tho I'm not sure if you can fly direct to here) or Rhodes.

Naxos was my favourite- really good restaurants, quite lively, lovely beaches and a big windsurfing, cycling culture- I even prefered it to Santorini!

Rhodes was nice too- the old town was gorgeous to walk around. theres a good waterpark, lots of restaurants, good nightlife but is not as tacky as Crete/Canaries.

I'm also looking to find somewhere similar at the mo and thinking about The Algarve, Sardinia or Croatia.

    Hope that helps

the algarve- albuferia is lovely can be as quiet/loud as you want it to be- best of both worlds, don't stay near the strip if you want a quiet one.

Highly recommend Sardinia, beautiful beaches and great food. It's also very handy to get to, about 2.5 hours with Ryanair. The Costa Esmeralda in the north is especially nice, can be on the expensive side though.

    Hi,

I've actually booked this place in Costa Meloneras,
Any tips on things to do nice places to eat etc? We're going for a quiet holiday as a couple but would like some nice resturaunts or bars that arent full of kids..

I'm just back from Meloneras last week. My favourite restaurants were Grand Italia & SushiMex. Both are down on the seafront by the light house.
Grand Italia is mainly Italian food but has a good choice on the menu - steak, chicken etc........ SushiMex serves both Japanese & Mexican food.

Are you staying in Costa Meloneras hotel or a different hotel in the resort?

I am indeed, I'm staying in the Lopesan Hotel, We were down along that boardwalk before taking a look around which is why we booked the hotel.

Is there much night life along there? Again though not witha load of teens etc. We're going to rent a car and we're big into nice resturaunts etc.

Is there any other places for resturaunts in the area other than the board walk?

There's another Italian called Ciao Ciao, that's nice enough. It's about a 15-20 minute walk. It's in the top left on this map. Just walk away from the lighthouse with the sea on your left. You'll pass the back of 2 Riu hotels & another Lopesan hotel 'Villa Del Conde' on your right on the way down. Just go past them, stay left. There's a small beach down there and a couple of restaurants.

One place that is meant to be nice but we didn't go is Samsara. It's about 5 minute walk away from your hotel. In the map above, it's on the right side.

There aren't too many bars around. The board walk you're on about is mostly restaurants. The 19th Hole Irish bar & the place next to it had entertainment on at night. Nothing too lively. There's a bar in your hotel, which is downstairs from reception and has a DJ every night. We went in one night, it was busy enough but the music wasn't great. There's a couple of bars across the road from the front of the hotel as well but again they weren't too lively.
