My HTC Hero contract with Meteor expires soon. I like HTC Desire HD but worry about battery life. Also which network offers best data download performance?

The desire HD does have a low battery at 1400mAh but you can pickup a better one for reasonable money from Ebay etc...

However I would hold off as the Desire HD2 is about to get launched and even if you are not interested in getting the latest one it should force a drop in the current models price.

As for network, i think the best value for money is with Meteor but they also have the least amount of 3G coverage nationwide. Next best I would think would be 3mobile then o2 and as usual Vodafone being the most expensive.

Thanks fionny. Whereas my Hero works fine and Meteor is very competitive on billpay I agree there is an issue with 3g coverage. Maybe I should wait and see what other operators offer rather than automatically go for the Meteor upgrade.

Aye I currently have the Desire and am gearing up to get the new Galaxy S 2 which was launced on Sunday. As a result I was looking around the houses to see the best tarrifs and meteor still is by far the best value, it suits me as I live in Cork but when back home in Tralee its naff...

That said they are building on it all the time.
