Was planning a trip to Egypt in Sept/Oct of this year but with the recent developments there does anyone think it would be risky to travel? Would prob spend a week in a resort and maybe a Nile cruise but real reason for trip is to visit the Pyramids.

Is anyone in a similiar position or have anything currently booked?

    Any opinions or advice appreciated!

I am going to the Sinai next month. I talked to a friend who lives there and she said everything was peaceful all along. There shouldn't be any problems in the Red Sea resort towns for sure. There are day-tours from Sharm el Sheikh to the Pyramids, the tours resumed I heard. People seem to be very optimistic according to my friend.

I've been there before, what a trip, just DON'T go on a long bus trip, fly/train wherever possible, roads are dangerous for the long hauls

A couple I know were booked to go in March and the travel company decided to cancel the trip. That happened about three weeks ago. That's all I know!

I'd say book it now when it's cheap. i'm sure things will settle and they are so dependent on tourism, that anyone who attacks a tourist would have their balls cut off.

When I went it was common to have armed guards escort our bus bus for some of the trip.

I recommend a packege cruse on the nile that includes a trip to gesa pyramids, luxor temple and abu simba

Sharm el Sheikh area of the red sea is safe, if you are going to organise a day trip up to the pyramids I would recommend doing the excursion by plane, bus takes 7 hours from Sharm. I would also recommend doing your excursion with Sharm Excursions http://www.sharmexcursions.com/. Here are the reviews on trip advisor http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g297555-d1166603-Reviews-Sharm_Excursions-Sharm_El_Sheikh_South_Sinai_Red_Sea_and_Sinai.html. I went with my girlfriend just before Christmas, end of Nov. Enjoy

I'm just back from sharm and it was totally normal,if a little quieter than normal. It's a lovely spot.
Cairo is fine too,I've a business trip there in 2 weeks and have no intention of canceling.

If in sharm, definitely fly to Cairo.
The pyramids are easy to do.
Avoid all hawkers offering camel trips, just get a taxi there and walk in.

Hi, might be a bit off topic, but has anyone stayed in either the Park Inn or AA Amwaj hotels? What are the all-inclusive packages like? Any info apppreciated.

    Sarah

I am heading out to sharm in two weeks.
There are some great delas out there. Take a look at trip advisor for reviews .
I booked mine through direct holidays which was for thomas cook uk.

I was there 3 years ago in may, blue skies every day and the place is great, nice relaxing sun holiday

    Thanks for your reply!

Ye, there are some great deals! was looking at a 14 night all inc.

I have looked at tripadvisor, but I was a bit sceptical, as there are some bad reviews but also some very good ones, and I just wasn't sure what to believe with the whole controversy about agencies being commissioned to write reviews!!I have never been on a package holiday before but I found it strange that a lot of the reviews were mentioning staff member's names!

Ye, the UK agencies seem to be a bit more competitve.

It's the guaranteed sun that's attractive so I think I might go with it!!

    Thanks.

There are some great deals out there for sharm. The english companies fly from belfast which is good.

Trip advisor can be misleading but people with multiple reviews and talking on the forums can give you a good idea.

I paid 830 for 2 weeks all inclusive. its meant to be 5* .
what would you get in ireland for 830???:D

    SUN SUN SUN every day.
