My and OH are going to a Christening next month and we are wondering (a) do we have to buy a pressie for the baby, and if so,
    (b) what would contributors here recommend for a pressie.

We have already bought pressies when the baby was born and for Christmas.

I dont buy christening presents ever. I think its ridiculous the amount of events that we're "supposed" to buy gifts for.

I went to a Christening yesterday and most people just bought an item of clothing for the baby. €10-20 tops.
Nobody showed up without a present though.....!

I have a 5 month old, but we won't be christening her.

I would say a €10 voucher. I have enough clothes till 12-18 mts old after her birth and Christmas. She has 12 toys and she cant even hold anything! Atleast if I had a voucher for her I could pick up the odd thing for her.

Other than that you could get a childs Bible, I got one for my god daughter and we read it when I bring her to mass, she's 2 but she always liked it.

We buy a gift on the birth of the child. Unless it's close family wouldn't give another present for the christening.

Veritas on Abbey St, Dublin will have the bibles, and you'll probably pick up a kid's one with pictures and the likes if you want. http://www.veritas.ie/ I think I got a bible before in Eason's as well. Standard one, no pictures :p

You could get a voucher for Mothercare or Mama's and Papa's for specifically baby stuff, Next and Marks and Spencer's have nice baby clothes as well.
