Entries were made a few days ago. It makes for a nice change from the jumpers just before it all kicks off in a months time, the calm before the storm of Cheltenham. I wouldn't be putting any money down but a little trawl through the entrants is a welcome relief from the miserable jumps season we've had.

Breakheart for me. 4 year olds with a good record, over half.
Jimmy Fortune one away from tying the record wins in the race,he'd probably get the leg up. Has contesed hot handicaps before25/1 looks good to me.Worry is he might need 10 furlongs, but has won over a mile.

Have a stake in Al Muheer. He just spent his first winter in Dandy Nocholls yard and has been gelded. Hoping he comes out with a better run than his last outing.

Depends on the draw but Tartan Gigha looked incredibly fit last time out. Came second - no penalties.

    Boylesport 33-1.

So I'm 8.5 points the win 1.5 points the place

For points read pounds. So if you bet in £10 is £8.5 to £1.5

Place the bet as £1.5ew and £7win

Good shout Fryern. He looks a big price for a horse in form. Trainer thinks the trip is too short for him though and his record suggests it is too.

He has won twice at shorter than 8 1/2f - as a 2yo and a 3yo. He's tried between 8f and 8 1/2f 16 times and won none. He needs further. There will surely be something to beat him in here on a flat track at a distance he's tried and tried at. He's just not fast enough.

    Bold words.

Won twice over 7f. Not fast enough! Well he won easily enough over 9f downhill at Epsom last year.

Looked magnificant last time out and eased off for next time. Only beaten 1/2 lengtht - cleverly done.

Can't agree with you. 33-1 looks a cracking ratio bet to me. Shall wait for the draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

He won at those distances 3 and 4 years ago. He's got a chance of course but I doubt he'll win. I'm not having a go at your selection so don't take it personally or get defensive like some do on here. This is a discussion forum after all.

That run over 8 1/2f at Epsom saw him win by a nose on the line. The Lincoln is 96 yards shorter. He's back down to a reasonable weight though and I wouldn't be suprise to see him place but to win would be a suprise. Still, everything has its price.

    Hi,

You can have as much banter as you like....................

    Won't offend me.

I see Boylesport now go 25-1 - chickens. I didn't hit them that hard!!

Fancy a tilt with Smarty Socks (34.00) myself, the going is the thing though, needs decent ground for best chance. De Sousa is booked which is a positive

    De Sousa

Looks like he's on Tartan Gigha is that good new Mike?

Twisted my local bookie to 25-1 yesterday. Happy with that. He owns the odd horse so a good man....... promised to put some on his next runner if I get some back!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

De Sousa will be nothing less than positive on a Johntson horse! Tartan Gigha, well he's better value than Louther and Prime Exhibit for example as judged by the recent Wolverhampton trail result. Drawn 8th which is neither here nor there on the Donny straight. Ideally you back one from either wing.

I like Guinness and have been drinking it for over 40 years. The reasons I hope are obvious. Irish Heartbeat illudes me!!!

Paul Hannigan talking about tomorrows racing http://www.attheraces.com/article.aspx?hlid=515586 he's on Irish Heartbeat.

Harrison George is a massive price (66s) on the machine. Hanagan overlooked him but George Challoner takes 7lbs off his back (which puts him on 9-3 - not top weight anymore!) and he recently rode a 22/1 winner for Fahey in Feburary - his last ride. HG is well drawn 3 from the rail and it seems to me that the low numbers will supply the winner. HG goes on any ground but the easy side of good suits, has run well at the track and won there but disappointed the last twice - I'm putting that down as coincidence.

It's a great race for the bookies so don't put your shirts on it. 22 runners & only pay on the 4 for a place - thank goodness for betfair.

I shall let some of my 33-1 & 25 on Tartan go. Should shorten up tomorrow.

Dunno if that was a general comment Fryern or aimed at me but I'm tempted to chuck my shirt at Harrison George at that price. He's nearly 3 times the price I'd say he deserves.

    Hi Nulti

It was a general comment that a number post without the reason. You like Harrison George and the reason is value. Makes sense to me.

Three look a bit rubbish at their jobs!

Now the trainer wants firm going and the bar stewards watered the course a few days back! Why?

So I shall lay a bit and have a free ride. Tartan just looked magnificent last time he ran. He reminded me of Border Jet in the paddock at Cheltenham many years ago. Border was trained by Ryan Price and I remember at the time saying nothing will beat that - and nothing did. Dear Ryan had just got his licence back and he got a 'well done Ryan & a good old Pricy' call from me. Sea The Stars was similar in stature - he always looked great.

Good luck we've both only got 21 to beat!

Anyone know why he was taken out? Gamble backers will not have been happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

    John Gosdens explanation:

“It’s never easy to make these decisions but I walked the course before racing and through nobody’s fault it wasn’t suitable ground.

“It may look good on TV but it’s very bare with a lot of sand on it. He’s not the easiest of horses to train and it’s the first day of the season so I didn’t want to run him.

“For those who have backed him I felt he wouldn’t have run any good under those conditions.”
