Who employs Educational Psychologists

I am curious as to whom employs most Educational Psycholgists. Would it tend to be the HSE/ Department of Education or other state body, or do they tend to be self employed? Or employed in the private sector through some other means?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I imagine there is a mix. Schools probably employ a fair few also. I wonder if the Garda / Courts Service / Prsion Service employ some.

NEPS - National Educational Psychological Service, part of the Dept of Education, have UNTIL RECENTLY recruited Educational Psychologists. I understand however that as Ed Psys are not considered frontline staff (unlike teachers) the public service recruitment embargo affects them.

Larger VECs may have their own Psychological Service but again the recruitment ban kicks in here.

Have you considered freelancing - taking private work from the public or perhaps getting freelance work from schools who may not have Ed Psys available to them due to shortages, cutbacks, embargos etc.

    Good luck!

It seems roles for Educational Psy's are being amalgamted into Clinical roles who provide assessments and not much else, whereas a Educational Psy can run intervention programmes with teachers etc, Clinical Psy's only seem happy to assess and reassess. I'm not sure the full extent of services are being provided for children which is a shame. I know some good Edu Psys looking for work with loads of experience, and nothing but Clinical Psys are being sought after.
